Where you get your voting and election information is extremely important. Make sure you, your friends, and your family get it from a trusted source – that means either the New York State Board of Elections or your local County Board of Elections. Why? The State Board of Elections and every County Board of Elections are bipartisan, and together, they ensure New York State's elections are administered fairly, securely, and by our state's laws. As you make your plan to vote in the 2024 General Election, make sure to remember a few key dates: ☞ Early in-person voting in New York State begins on October 26 and runs through November 3. Check with your local board of elections to confirm your county's available locations and polling hours each day. ☞ The last day to register to vote and still cast your ballot in the November election is October 26. This month, I was honored to accept the Women Builders Council Innovation Champion award, which was presented by Lorraine Grillo, an outstanding leader in public service, who has consistently been at the forefront of effective and efficient project delivery work in the public sector, and is an inspiration to me and to countless women in our industry.    It's a privilege to lead the NYS Office of General Services, which supports Governor Hochul’s vision for reimagining and revitalizing our public facilities. This award is a reflection of the incredible work of leaders in Design & Construction, including the remarkable leadership of Deputy Commissioner Bridget OHanlon, Associate Commissioner Erik Deyoe, P.E., Brady Sherlock, P.E., John Kochem, Tony D'Auge, Pierre Alric, and Kristin Sorbaro, ENV SP, Real Property & Facility Management Associate Commissioner Bradley Hutton, P.E., LEED AP and OGS executives Thomas Nitido, Emily Rubenstein, Germain Difo, and Anna Scaife. OGS has been addressing major infrastructure challenges and long-accumulated deferred maintenance through the rehabilitation of some of our State’s iconic public buildings like the state Capitol, the Lexington Avenue Armory, and the Jones Beach Bathhouse. With Governor Hochul’s $100 million investment in decarbonizing the Empire State Plaza, we’re on a path to reduce local greenhouse gas emissions by 20%, showing our commitment to sustainability and ensuring that New York has a safe, healthy, affordable future. I’m honored to be recognized for the innovative solutions that we’ve implemented at OGS. I was also honored to accept the Diversity Empowerment Champion Award on behalf of Governor Kathy Hochul, who has made unprecedented investments in infrastructure & economic development, while working to break down barriers for women to do business with the State. She’s unlocked new doors for businesses owned by women and people of color, and fosters inclusion in state contracting. Thank you Julia Kerson, PMP for helping to celebrate this moment. And finally, I proudly accepted the Trailblazer award on behalf of NYSERDA President & CEO Doreen Harris. Doreen tirelessly advocates for clean energy innovation and investments in the fight against climate change so that New York has a prosperous, healthy, & equitable future. She has promoted renewable energy and supported emission reductions across New York’s economy throughout her career. It was an uplifting night to celebrate all awardees, and I was so proud to be in the company of the tremendous women that are at the forefront of building a better, safer, and more resilient New York.

NYS Office of General Services recently joined RMI and NRDC for a White House convening to commit to reducing carbon emissions from concrete used in state projects 30% by 2028. Congratulations to OGS Commissioner Jeanette Moy on being recognized with the Women Builders Council’s Innovation Champion Award! This award recognizes a professional who has made significant strides through innovation and creative leadership. Commissioner Moy and nine other WBC honorees were recognized at a gala event last month in New York City: https://lnkd.in/eFJ-wc3Z The WBC noted Commissioner Moy’s work moving New York forward, including in sustainability, complex infrastructure delivery, and efficient procurement. The Women Builders Council, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, supports women and minorities in the building industry and provides resources to help them grow professionally.

The Office of General Services participated in a recently-announced White House initiative aimed at advancing clean construction materials. New York State is committed to reducing the embodied carbon of the concrete mixes that we procure for our state projects. Embodied carbon represents the emissions that result from the mining, harvesting, processing, manufacturing, transportation, installation, use of products and materials, and disposal of materials. This announcement represents a significant step towards advancing Governor Kathy Hochul’s Executive Order 22, which directed state agencies to reduce embodied carbon in construction materials used in the state’s infrastructure projects.
