The Center on Race, Inequality and the Law at NYU Law and the Guarini Center at NYU School of Law are recruiting for the first Director of the New York University School of Law Environmental Justice Lab. The Director will establish and lead the Environmental Justice Lab and play a critical role in building a vibrant environmental justice program at New York University School of Law. The Lab will: 🤝 Work with partners, including impacted communities, to address longstanding environmental racism, amplify the voices of disadvantaged communities, and build a just, decarbonized future; 💡 Provide law students with a unique opportunity to engage in cutting-edge policy advocacy, litigation, and research in the field of environmental justice; ⚖ Seek to increase the number of legal practitioners, academics, and clinicians dedicated to addressing environmental problems that disproportionately burden communities of color and low-income neighborhoods, promoting environmental and social change, and advancing racial justice. 🔔 Applications will be considered on a rolling basis beginning on August 12, 2024. 🚗 In May, our Executive Director, Christine Billy and former legal fellow, Janet Bering wrote about New Jersey’s (still pending!) challenge to New York’s congestion pricing law as an example of how NEPA can be used to adjudicate interstate pollution disputes. Next term, #SCOTUS will consider how far NEPA can reach when assessing interstate pollution impacts in Seven County Infrastructure Coalition v. Eagle County.
