❄️ Snowflake just published a guide on how to create PRIVATE enterprise APIs using snowpark containers and Ockam. Enterprise applications routinely need access to data resident in Snowflake. For example, you may want to provide data to an AI agent or present charts that visualize insights on an internal dashboard. Snowpark containers make it easy to create an HTTP API that this dashboard application may call. But, this is your organization's private business-critical data. Exposing it on an internet-facing public endpoint is extremely dangerous. In this guide you’ll learn how to create a custom Snowflake API in python and use Ockam to privately share this API with other enterprise applications. This private API will not have an endpoint that is exposed to the Internet. The tutorial will, instead, show you how to create end-to-end encrypted Ockam Portals from your enterprise applications to the API in Snowflake. Teams at Snowflake shared with us that many of their customers struggle to safely move data from Snowflake to private enterprise transactional stores like Postgres, MySQL, Oracle etc. Ockam makes it trivial to create end-to-end encrypted, very high-throughput, secure portals to private PostgreSQL servers. Your Postgres could be anywhere – in a data-center, in a private VPC, in any cloud, in a private kubernetes cluster, in Amazon RDS, etc. These enterprise customers have tried all sorts of janky ways to make it work – from punching insecure holes in their firewalls to elaborate infra changes to create private links that took them many months to setup. We worked with Snowflake to create a simple Snowflake Native App. This app uses Ockam to securely connect Snowflake with private PostgreSQL.
