About us
Odyssey’s mission is to expand the ambitions of Atlanta students and empower them on a successful journey to college and a fulfilling career. Odyssey partners with the Atlanta Public Schools to serve 380 students in grades 1-12 from under-resourced communities. The program targets “middle third” students: those students who may need the extra push, the nurturing environment, and the sense of community that a multi-year program like Odyssey can provide. Odyssey’s academic enrichment program focuses on students with unmet potential, preparing them for high school graduation and supporting them on their path to college. We offer a six-week educational summer experience focusing on STEAM (science, technology, art, engineering and math-grounded in project-based learning. All transportation, supplies, meals, field trips and college tours are provided for a nominal $35 registration fee. Odyssey’s cost per participant is approximately $2,500 per year. Over its thirteen-year history, Odyssey has developed a reputation for being an outstanding summer program delivering tangible academic results to 1000s of young people and their families.

We're wrapping up week three at Odyssey and our scholars have been immersed in impactful activities! Here are some highlights: High School Scholars: • Rising 12th graders went on a week-long college tour, visiting University of Florida, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, University of Central Florida, and Bethune-Cookman University. • Rising 10th graders heard from Dr. Fang about psychiatry and discussed mental health topics. • Our high school scholars visited Assembly Atlanta and the Atlanta Preservation Center, exploring local history and architecture. Middle School Scholars • Rising 8th graders participated in a mentoring session with McKinsey & Company, gaining valuable insights and guidance. • Rising 7th and 8th graders learned the importance of financial literacy through interactive lessons with Truist. • Rising 6th graders volunteered at the Atlanta Community Food Bank, learning about community service and helping those in need. Elementary School Scholars • Scholars engaged in activities to enhance their subtraction skills. • Elementary scholars also participated in an African Drumline Workshop and learned to play traditional African drums while exploring their cultural significance. • Rising 4th graders learned about the importance of voting and participated in activities simulating the voting process. Exciting updates from our first week of Odyssey 2024 Summer Programming! This week, our students engaged in a dynamic blend of learning and adventure. From mastering multiplication with iPads to fostering friendships and curiosity in their first week, every moment was filled with laughter and exploration. Meanwhile, our field trips to the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum, Bear Creek Preserve, and Noah's Ark Sanctuary brought education to life, as students used technology to map their journeys and immerse themselves in hands-on experiences. In the classroom, they tackled graphic design, marketing, public speaking, and mathematics with enthusiasm and determination, preparing themselves for future success. Here's to a week of growth, empowerment, and endless possibilities! #OdysseyAtlanta #Education #Empowerment

Odyssey Atlanta reposted this
Continued Professional Growth & Support in PBL: Sustained Support Visits 📸 Captured in these photographs are educators from Odyssey Atlanta, an educational enrichment program that serves Metro-Atlanta youth in grades first through 12. In this session, led by our Lead National Faculty James Campbell, educators are immersed in our "Project Refresh" Sustained Support Visit (SSV). This dynamic full-day session offered participants a comprehensive review of the Essential Project Design Elements so teachers could plan authentic, relevant, learner-centered projects that meet their learning goals. SSVs are designed to provide focused support for teachers to implement projects effectively. Focus areas include Building a PBL Culture, Sustained Inquiry, and Formative Assessment. Through group discussions, hands-on activities, and collaborative exercises, educators had the opportunity to revise an existing project design (their own or one from the PBLWorks Project Library) or begin creating an entirely new project design. At PBLWorks, we believe in the power of continuous professional learning and growth. Through SSVs, we offer educators ongoing support and learning opportunities after they have completed our foundational PBL 101 workshop. #projectbasedlearning #PBL #sustainedsupport

WE NEED AV EQUIPMENT! The Odyssey summer program offers students the opportunity to explore new and creative competencies, including an AV class. The class gives students an opportunity to learn the ins and outs of the film industry, exploring roles as production assistants, camera assistants, script supervisors, and more in a growing and booming field in Georgia. This year Odyssey is in need of equipment to make this class a reality for our scholars. If your company has equipment or funds they would like to donate please contact Rebecca Wallace at RebeccaWallace@OdysseyAtlanta.org or 770-862-3192. You can also personally donate to the AV fund by clicking the following link and select Summer Program Supplies: https://lnkd.in/dFKNVSy2 #OdysseyATL

It's National Volunteer Appreciation Week and yesterday, we visited MCIC Vermont, LLC where an incredible group of employees assembled all of our summer scholar bags! The initiative kicked off with an overview of the Odyssey mission and the group heard directly from Odyssey Scholar, Demar Goodman as he shared the impact of the program. MCIC volunteers also sponsored and assembled over 350 snack bags to be distributed for the summer and we can't thank them enough for their support! #volunteerappreciationweek #OdysseyATL #nationalvolunteermonth #MCICVermont
