Office of the Under Secretary for Science and Innovation, U.S. Department of Energy reposted this
CSU was thrilled to welcome the US. Department of Energy’s Under Secretary for Science and Innovation, Dr. Geri Richmond, and Argonne National Laboratory to campus to meet with senior administrators, students, and faculty ✨ We discussed the Community Research on Climate & Urban Science (CROCUS) research, as well as strategies for advancing access, success, and equity in STEM, leveraging Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs) like CSU. Highlights of the visit included the tour of CSU’s ‘scientific super site’ at the campus’ prairie and forest sites, where CROCUS instrumentation sensors are installed. Another highlight was the engaging conversation between students leading STEM research from CSU, University of Illinois Chicago, Northern Illinois University, and other local institutions - This project is one of many examples of STEM excellence at CSU, where we are in the top 3% nationwide in graduating Black students with baccalaureate degrees in physics and conducting federally funded research in the areas of quantum sensing, microelectronics, forever chemicals, pathogens, and much more 🔎 We look forward to a continued partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) as we collectively build a higher education system where our students reach their career goals in STEM fields ✨ A special thank you to our guests from: 📌 Department of Energy: Dr. Geri Richmond, Under Secretary for Science & Technology, Jessica Harding, (Special Assistant, Office of the Undersecretary) 📌 Argonne National Laboratories: Robyn Wheeler Grange (Director, Office of Community Engagement), Holly Shearer (Special Events), Scott Collis (Director, Argonne Testbed for Multiscale Observational Science) and Sean L.
