Meet Maggie O’Haire, Ph.D., an NICHD grantee and associate dean for research and head of the Organization for Human-Animal Interaction Research and Education at the University of Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine. One of the country’s leading researchers on human-animal interaction (HAI), Dr. O’Haire focuses on the ways that animals such as service dogs affect human mental health and wellness. Among other research, her NICHD-funded studies have yielded insights into how service animals support veterans who have been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
