‘Ohana Health Plan attended the 2024 Hawaii Island Healthcare Conference at the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort. Addressing healthcare access and equity on Hawaii Island requires long-term, cross-sector collaboration. Panel discussions included strengthening Hawaii’s healthcare workforce, bridging the healthcare gap through telehealth, and collaborative efforts focused on improved health outcomes in rural healthcare, among other topics. Mahalo to Community First Hawaii for putting on an incredible conference.

Mahalo to everyone who stopped by our booth to learn more about Wellcare by ‘Ohana Health Plan at the 5th Annual Young at Heart Expo. The free event offered lifestyle-improving tips aimed at those 50 and older in Hawaii, and featured the latest in healthy living, financial planning, and leisure for those in their later years. We hope you had fun and enjoyed our photo booth and popcorn!

‘Ohana Health Plan volunteered at Gregory House Programs’ Save the FoodBasket, a monthly food distribution, at First Baptist Church. Our team spent the morning packing up fresh fruits, vegetables, meats and canned goods. Although Save the FoodBasket primarily provides nutrition services for individuals and families impacted by HIV/AIDS, the second Tuesday of the month is open to the public. A big mahalo to Gregory House Programs for taking care of our most vulnerable communities.

As August draws to a close, we want to mark this period of remembrance by honoring the lives lost in Lahaina after the devastating Maui wildfires one year ago. We also want to recognize those who suffered overwhelming loss, trauma and heartbreak, along with the many displaced individuals and families who are without stable housing. We are grateful to the first responders, numerous government agencies and community partners for their work in rebuilding Lahaina. The recovery and rebuilding is not done yet but we can continue to support Maui on its path to healing. The Maui Food Bank has stated the demand for food is up more than 65 percent since August 2023. In partnership with the American Red Cross, Da Market is now open in Maui. It is intended to help those affected by the fires, but is open to anyone in need. Please don’t forget about Maui and consider making an impact by supporting the immediate and long-term needs of the community: Maui Food Bank - https://bit.ly/3MsFndx Hawaii Community Foundation - https://bit.ly/3MsFm9t Aloha United Way - https://bit.ly/47554dD

‘Ohana Health Plan is excited to announce the Patsy T. Mink Leadership Alliance has named Kari Shintaku to its ninth cohort. The program is the only one in Hawaii designed for emerging women leaders who are committed to personal growth, professional impact, and community change. This program further develops management and leadership skills to increase the representation of women executives in Hawaii. The program, named in honor of the late Patsy T. Mink, who was both the first Asian-American woman and the first woman from Hawaii to serve in the U.S. Congress. She was renowned for her commitment to proactive leadership and women’s advocacy. Congratulations, Kari!
