At the Ohio Department of Agriculture, we work every day to protect the public and safeguard the state’s plants and animals, while at the same time allowing responsible agricultural production to thrive. With a staff of approximately 430, ODA administers numerous regulatory, food safety, consumer protection, plant health and animal care programs for the benefit of all Ohioans. The department also helps create greater economic opportunity for Ohio’s farmers and processors, and works to preserve and enhance Ohio’s resources.

Ohio is experiencing a historic drought. Director Baldridge met with farmers yesterday in Monroe and Noble counties to learn more about how it’s impacting agriculture. ODA will continue to assess the ongoing impacts of this extreme drought and connect farmers to the appropriate resources and assistance. We encourage anyone affected by the drought to contact their local Farm Service Agency.

Burn ban in effect. To help farmers and all Ohioans affected by this historic drought, the State Fire Marshal has ordered a ban on open burning in certain regions. Clear for takeoff! The Holmes County Soil and Water Conservation District and Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District are celebrating 15 years of their aerial cover crop program. From the runway to the farm fields, planes are planting cover crop seed for farmers, helping improve soil health and water quality in Ohio.
