OHLA USA team members gathered together earlier this week at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel to celebrate receiving an ENR Best Project Award for the I-405 Improvement Project in Orange County, CA.  Congratulations to all project team members, including our clients #OCTA and #Caltrans, on receiving this prestigious recognition. OHLA USA is the lead member of the OC 405 joint venture responsible for performing the contract to design and construct the I-405 Improvement Project. The effort has widened lanes and added one new general-purpose lane along the right shoulder and one new tolled express lane in the median in both directions along the corridor between State Route 73 and Interstate 605. Work on this 16-mile-long project was performed around the clock utilizing almost every construction discipline. On September 30, OHLA USA’s Executive Vice President of the Northeast Region, Larry Korgood, joined a panel event hosted by New York’s MTA. New York City’s top general contracting firms who participated were able to invite a DBE subcontractor to discuss in an open forum what is required to build a strong and successful partnership. The discussion highlighted the importance of open and frequent communication and setting clear expectations before contracts are awarded. Tony Dagnachew, owner of Dagnachew Electric and a long-time OHLA USA partner, shared valuable insights on becoming a qualified subcontractor and the importance of attending construction industry events, trade shows, and outreach programs. Pictured below is the construction of a pier wall to support the widening of the Castaic Creek Bridge, part of #OHLAUSA’s I-5 North County Enhancements Project in Santa Clarita, California.   The Castaic Creek structure is one of seven bridges that will be expanded to accommodate the new high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes, which is a major segment of the $379 million contract to improve the I-5 freeway.   Construction is underway along the outside shoulders of the bridge. Activities include demolition, excavation, shoring, steel pile driving, forming, rebar, concrete work, soil backfill, falsework installation and removal, utility work, and bridge barrier work. Both daytime and nighttime work are required to execute this portion of the contract.   For more information on this project, please visit: https://lnkd.in/ez2cq4Qm #heavycivil #bridges #freeways #highways #infrastructure #infrastructureimprovements #weareOHLA #webuildexcellence

Congratulations to OHLA USA’s Northeast Region employees who participated in the Tunnel to Towers Foundation 5K Run and Walk NYC on Sunday, September 29th. They participated with Team Ramily, a group founded nine years ago by our own Nicole DeFilippi, who is an OHLA USA Assistant Project Manager assigned to the ADA Upgrades at 13 Stations project in New York City. Team Ramily is comprised of 22 colleagues, friends, and family members! #TunneltoTowers is a charity that honors the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11th and supports our nation’s first responders, military heroes, and their families. The event symbolizes #FDNY’s Stephen Siller’s final footsteps from the foot of the Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers. Nicole wishes to thank her OHLA USA colleagues who joined Team Ramily this year and contributed to their fundraising efforts! In honor of their 9th year participating, the team set an ambitious goal of $9,000. Thanks to the incredible generosity and support of those who donated, they not only met that goal but exceeded it, raising over $10,000! The team is deeply grateful to everyone who contributed; their support made a significant impact and will help our nation’s heroes and their families. Recently, #OHLAUSA's subsidiary, #OHLABuilding, broke ground on a seven-story luxury apartment building at 1155 100th Street in Bay Harbour Islands in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The new residential property will feature 45 apartments all with the latest amenities. Complex & Deep Foundation Work: Due to the proximity of the Atlantic coastline, the project requires a deep augercast pile foundation along with several dewatering components. Seen below is OHLA Building’s subcontractor, MB Drilling, mobilizing to perform the drilling and installation of 555 augercast piles. Once the augercast piles have been installed, the project team will install 600 linear feet of sheet piling to support the dewatering system required for the excavation needed to install the balance of the building foundation system. During the design phase, it was determined that two drainage wells would be installed temporarily to accommodate dewatering during the foundation construction and that three permanent disposal wells with exfiltration trenches and an extensive drainage system would be required to handle surface stormwater on the building site. Location & Amenities: Conveniently located between Bal Harbour Shops and Miami Beach, the apartment building showcases significant amenities including a rooftop pool and recreation deck, a gym and fitness facilities, and ground-level parking.
