What's your hotel's website conversion rate? Unfortunately, hotels experience some of the LOWEST website conversion rates of any industry: somewhere between 0.5%-2.5%, depending on the property. It's something I experienced firsthand as a hotelier and instead of resigning myself to the OTAs and antiquated booking engines, I decided to do something about it. Two years ago, we signed our first customers off of a deck and a dream. It hasn't been an easy journey and there are many reasons why the hotel distribution landscape looks the way it does. Hotels for far too long have been sold the story that they cannot own their distribution or (profitably) build a direct connection with their guests. And guess what, without the right partners it is nearly impossible to do! Earlier this year, we partnered with an incredible independent property that really struggled with direct bookings and relied on the OTAs for 83% of their business. Like most properties, they had a bottom-of-funnel conversion problem (aka their booking engine, which was the "gold standard" of the industry). Despite solid traffic, their best month's conversion rate maxed out at 2%. Today marks six months to the day since they launched. The hotel saw an almost immediate uptick in direct bookings, doubling the number of direct reservations within the first 30 days.
