  • This summer, we were proud to once again partner with MCC Community Education - Nebraska to sponsor a youth Sustainability Boot Camp. Over four weeks, the students learned about sustainability through activities like hydroponic growing, composting experiments and taking a tour of the OPPD Arboretum. OPPD experts in their respective fields gave tours and showcased their knowledge in topics such as solar and prairie conservation. This collaboration with MCC offers an interactive, engaging way to further take part in our community. ♻ 🌻🌞

  • Team OPPD rolled into action this weekend at the 34th Annual Corporate Cycling Challenge. 🚲 This year, 39 of our cyclists took to the trails, joining other companies, groups and individuals to support the Eastern Nebraska Trails Network, which uses the funds to develop trails in Greater Omaha and Eastern Nebraska. This event is Nebraska's largest one-day bicycling event. Over $190K has been donated since the challenge started, supporting projects like the Kerry Pedestrian Bridge, the Mo-Pac Trail, the Dodge Street Bridge and recently the Culver's Trailhead Project in Bellevue.

  • Meet Chad, Steamfitter at OPPD's Nebraska City Station. 👋 On any given day, you might find Chad filling potholes with a skid steer or cutting out and welding a 6,000-pound valve into place. Chad thrives on the variety his job offers, ensuring every day is different and challenging. Before becoming a steamfitter, Chad worked in operations at OPPD, where he identified issues but didn't have the chance to fix them himself. Drawn to hands-on work, he transitioned to his current role to do more than just report problems—now, he solves them. For those considering a similar path, Chad's advice is, "You can't be afraid to get dirty or take something apart you've never seen before. Also, always be learning because there’s a lot to know with this job so pay attention and help with things you've never done."

  • Meet Megan, Manager of Design Engineering at OPPD. 👋 Megan has spent the last few years as a project manager at OPPD, overseeing the construction of the new natural gas generating plants, Turtle Creek and Standing Bear Lake stations. She worked to keep construction on schedule at both sites so the plants can support the unprecedented growth in OPPD's service territory. Megan joined OPPD in 2012, starting as a system engineer at Fort Calhoun Station. In her most recent role, she coordinated teams, managed schedules and budgets, and addressed challenges to ensure the success of the gas plant projects, which together will generate up to 600 megawatts of electricity. Her leadership and project management skills have been vital in helping OPPD meet rising energy demands and maintain a reliable power system. After handing over the reins on the gas plant projects, Megan is now looking forward to her new position as manager of Design Engineering. Outside of work, Megan enjoys tap dancing with friends, staying busy with her 11-year-old twins and volunteering with the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life committee.
