  • Meet Stacey, Wellness Specialist at OPPD. 👋 Stacey is responsible for coordinating and implementing wellness programs that help OPPD employees thrive across the five dimensions of well-being: physical, emotional, social, career and financial. Her goals include ensuring that every employee can be their best both at work and home, and helping to build a culture that promotes, supports and enhances the mental health of our employees. A typical day for Stacey involves coordinating district-wide challenges, health screening and flu shot events, nutrition demos, leading mental health lunch and learns and much more. She loves assisting others along their wellness journey, and she is motivated by seeing someone achieve their goals or improve their well-being. For anyone looking to boost their mental health, Stacey recommends simple, everyday practices like keeping a gratitude journal, taking mindful breaks or setting daily intentions. She emphasizes the importance of finding what works for you, whether going for a walk, calling a friend or enjoying a sunrise. Just as important, never be afraid to ask for help. Bottom line, she says to, "Take time for YOU every day!" #WorldMentalHealthDay

  • Cultivating a workplace where employees feel valued, heard and empowered is IDEAL. ✨ Last week, OPPD was honored to receive the HRAM - Human Resource Association of the Midlands IDEAL Award. This award was presented at the Greater Omaha Chamber's 2024 CODE Conference, an event celebrating excellence in advancing opportunity, diversity and equity in the workplace.   • As we celebrate #HispanicHeritageMonth, we're excited to showcase the voices and experiences of a few of our team members. 🎊 Meet Austin, Business Enablement Lead 👋 Throughout Austin's 15-year OPPD career, he's found a path that allows him to do what he does best every day. In addition to being the lead on the Customer Platform AMI project, he is helping develop a roadmap of new products and services that leverage AMI capabilities and data. For Austin, Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity to honor and celebrate his family and community. His grandmother's family immigrated from Tepatitlán, Mexico and his grandfather’s family came from Zacatecas. Austin feels it's up to him to make sure his children understand their heritage. Another legacy of Austin's is being a founding member of LSO (Latino Society of OPPD). LSO provides a space to share Latino culture while providing mentoring and development opportunities to Latino employees. Austin's advice? "Whatever you do – do it with integrity and strive to be your best. You'll never be ready to take the first step but do it anyway. Take the risk and learn from your mistakes. It’ll be worth it."

  • Congratulations to the participants of our latest Crew Leader University! 🎓👏 This group of employees successfully completed their in-class training and will take their oral board exams later this year. Crew Leader University (CLU) provides essential tools for leadership, including trust-building, problem-solving, safety and customer interactions, to prepare for future crew leader positions. Since its start in 2020, CLU has helped 150 employees enhance their skills, with 74 moving on to become crew leaders. We're proud to invest in our team and support their leadership journeys.

  • Meet Robert, Senior Communications Technician at OPPD. 👋 Robert’s career in communications technology began when he joined the U.S. Army, which provided him with training and a host of unique experiences. After earning an electronic engineering and computer communications degree, he spent 13 years working for the Kansas Department of Transportation before joining OPPD in 2019. Being part of a specialized group of field workers who help connect, protect and expand OPPD’s communications network, Robert’s day-to-day begins with creating a plan of action based on new developments and ongoing projects. He often collaborates with engineering teams to resolve complex problems, and he supports every office, generation facility and substation at OPPD. While in the field, Robert never stops learning, tackling challenges and figuring out new solutions to the way his job operates. For aspiring communication techs out there, Robert’s advice is to join a HAM radio club to jump start the learning process. Having a high-level understanding of electronics, RF Theory, computer networking and troubleshooting techniques is key.

  • This week, we hosted our first annual Youth Power Summit! 💡 A big thanks to our partners Kiewit Luminarium and Metropolitan Community College for helping bring the energy. Students from Westview, Central, Burke, Buena Vista and Benson high schools didn't just learn about energy, they experienced it. The kids explored the science of electricity, gained knowledge on sustainability and careers in energy— plus got hands-on with interactive activities.

For Neyda, Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to celebrate her culture and embrace her identity. Her family's roots are in Mexico, and she enjoys visiting their homeland every year because it allows her to connect with relatives and appreciate all that the country has to offer. Neyda's heritage has shaped her by giving her the confidence to pursue new opportunities and take pride in where she comes from. It has also taught her to be fearless in the face of challenges. Her advice? "Always go for an opportunity that helps you grow and have the courage to take those opportunities a step further."
