Congratulations, David Schoolcraft- the Digital Health Counsel 2024 AI Summit proved to be inspiring, educational, and, most importantly, led to insightful collaboration with some of the brightest minds in digital health. Let's do it all again in 2025!
Two days later, the energy from DHC2024 AI Summit is still running high, and my mind is racing with the conversations and ideas shared. Matthew Soskins may have captured it best when he said: "My mom always told me, if you're the smartest person in the room, you're in the wrong room." Well, I was definitely in the right room on Tuesday and Wednesday at DHC2024. What an absolute rockstar lineup of lawyers, engineers, clinicians, scientists, entrepreneurs, and patient advocates—each working on tough problems at the intersection of healthcare, law, and technology. And they didn’t just show up—they brought it. Each presentation elevated the level of discourse and urgency around how AI can be used for good in healthcare. The Nobel committee seems to think breakthroughs in AI will have far-reaching impact on society. I couldn’t agree more. But what we need now is a massive multidisciplinary effort to: 1. Understand the implications of AI for our healthcare system, 2. Shape its development, 3. Address risks, and 4. Ensure its benefits are widely shared. As Tayab Waseem MD PhD put it perfectly on Wednesday: "DHC seeks to tackle the 'last mile problem' of implementing AI in healthcare"—the really tough, yet critically important, challenge of actually applying this technology in practice in an ethical and legally responsible manner. The challenge now is moving from these two days of inspiration, education, and collaboration to concrete action on solving this “last mile problem.” After spending time with such an amazing group of speakers and attendees, I’m optimistic we’re up to the challenge. So much gratitude to all who participated and a special shout out to Karen (MacIsaac) Oboy and Alekhya Kondepudi for all their help. More posts and photos to follow—thank you all!!!

This month at Ogden Murphy Wallace, we're excited to welcome both new and familiar faces. Drew Pearsall has returned to our Litigation department after his time teaching at Kennedy Catholic High School, and we’re also pleased to welcome Allen Benson, a seasoned construction litigator, as a new addition to the firm. We’re proud to have them both on board and look forward to their future.
