Saving Two Lives, One Team at a Time

About us

In 2010, a veteran who was suicidal reached out to our founder, Army veteran and Master Canine Educator, Mary Cortani. He'd been on a list for three years waiting to be matched with a service dog. Mary knew with her canine expertise, military experience and passion for helping others she could make a difference. When Mary answered that call, she found her calling and Operation Freedom Paws was born Operation Freedom Paws is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that empowers veterans, children and other individuals with disabilities to restore their freedom to live life. We teach our clients to train a rescued dog, and together, become certified service dog teams. Service dogs help our clients cope with everything from PTSD, traumatic brain injuries and depression to seizures and mobility issues. To date, we have been honored to serve 439 individuals, 2,195 family members and rescued 377 dogs. We're committed to providing our 48-week training program to our clients including: service dogs, mental health therapy, veterinarian visits, physical rehabilitation equipment, temporary housing, transportation and a safe place to go 24/7- at no cost to them. Our clients continue to receive our support and community for a lifetime. We believe in the power of community to amplify the good work we can do for our clients. Where their lives are no longer defined by trauma and pain, but by who they are. We hope you'll join the OFP community and together help us save two lives, one team at a time.

As we mark the 23rd anniversary of 9/11 today, we honor the lives tragically lost and remember the extraordinary bravery and selflessness of both first responders and civilians. We extend our deepest gratitude to the 300 handlers and their K9s who played a crucial role in the rescue efforts. In our darkest hours, you were the light. We will never forget their sacrifices and remain steadfast in our commitment to serving those who risk their lives to protect our nation and our communities. Today, let's hold close to our hearts all those who lost family and friends on 9/11. May we keep their legacies alive and always remember and honor them. #neverforgotten #911remembrance

Sean Brownlee is a remarkable ambassador and advocate for our mission and fellow veterans. On Labor Day, it’s the perfect time to highlight how he also champions the retail community as the CEO of Ravenox. Congratulations to Sean and his team for being recognized with this well-deserved honor from Amazon.

I'm deeply honored to be recognized by Amazon in a recent article celebrating my inclusion as one of the National Retail Federation's America’s Retail Champions. This acknowledgment not only highlights our efforts at Ravenox but also underscores the vital role of advocacy in the retail sector. Advocacy is crucial as it gives voice to businesses and helps shape policies that foster growth and sustainability. Retail and small businesses truly are the backbone of our economy—they create jobs, drive innovation, and enrich our communities. Special thanks to the Washington Retail Association and the NRF for their steadfast support and advocacy efforts. It's a privilege to stand alongside such dedicated individuals and organizations that continually work towards empowering the retail community. #RetailChampions #Advocacy #SmallBusiness #NRF2024 https://lnkd.in/gQYRUrEc

  • We love seeing our clients and their service dogs mirror each other’s peace and tranquility during puppy yoga. What might seem like a simple act is actually a powerful commitment to staying grounded and present in the moment. These sessions are more than just calming, they're a key part of the crucial skillset our clients are building to navigate their new normal with their service dogs. It’s inspiring to watch these bonds grow stronger and more resilient through this mindful practice.

On this Women’s Equality Day, we proudly honor the women in our world and extend our deepest gratitude to those who have served and sacrificed for our country and communities.

On this day in 1920, the 19th Amendment became part of the U.S. Constitution, guaranteeing women the right to vote. This was after 36 states (including California) had ratified the amendment. Nine years earlier, in a statewide referendum, California voted in favor of recognizing a woman’s right to vote. 📷 The photo shows a 1917 parade in New York City supporting women's suffrage. #WomensEqualityDay #19thAmendment

  • Happy National Dog Day! Today, as we celebrate all dogs, we also want to shine a light on the dogs who play an essential role in our mission at Operation Freedom Paws. These remarkable dogs are crucial in empowering our clients to take charge of their lives and reclaim hope, freedom, and mobility. Here’s to honoring the incredible impact dogs have on transforming lives and making a difference every single day.

Message from ou founder Mary: Thank you team Cisco for asking us to join you in Augusta and helping us get the word out about OFP. It was great to meet everyone and have tons of conversations. Meeting the veterans who were part of the Cisco team there, seeing them continuing to want to serve and help with the solutions Cisco can provide was inspiring. What an amazing group of people. Kelly thank you for making sure we were always taken care of. Thank you for having us be part of it. Huey and Ramon give you two paws up and a bully rub.
