We are better than this. We must stand with our allies.

📢 The Trump Administration is Moving to Permanently Shut Down Enduring Welcome On day one, executive orders paused refugee admissions (USRAP) and froze foreign aid—including the funding that supported Afghan relocations. At the time, we were told this was temporary. Now, reports indicate that the administration is making plans for a permanent shutdown. The State Department has directed staff to prepare for the full closure of Enduring Welcome—the most secure pathway for our Afghan allies. This would abandon: 🚨 40,000 already vetted & cleared for travel. 🚨 50,000 in third countries with nowhere to go. 🚨 15,000 in Pakistan waiting for flights. 🚨 3,000 immediate family members of active-duty U.S. service members. 🚨 10,000 individuals seeking family reunification, including 3,000 unaccompanied minors’ family members. This isn’t just about keeping our promises. This is a national security issue. 🔴 If this decision stands: Future allies will refuse to work with us—why risk their lives if the U.S. won’t stand by them? The Taliban, ISIS-K, and al-Qaeda will use this as proof that America abandons its allies. U.S. service members will be at greater risk in future conflicts without local support. This would be a betrayal of our veterans, our military families, and our wartime allies. We don’t leave people behind. We absolutely must stop this from happening. We must not let this potential betrayal happen quietly, we can stop it, so please share this story with your networks. https://lnkd.in/gku8Zq-f #EnduringWelcome #AfghanEvac #HonorOurAllies #KeepOurPromises

The Taliban burned 900 kilograms of women’s hair and several musical instruments in Kabul. This act was carried out simply because of the women’s gender and the suppression of cultural expression. The Taliban’s oppressive policies against women in Afghanistan continue.

#Afghanistan - from the great journalist Bilal Sarwary... in his recent X-platform post, he highlights a video of families mourning the deaths their loved ones whose "crime" was serving in the Afghan military. Reportedly, the Taliban arrested them and shot 3 without trial. Five others captured/arrested are still missing. This is the Taliban that we are still engaging with. This is the Taliban who faces NO consequences for failing to meet their promises of amnesty and moderation. Bilal's post: https://lnkd.in/e9tmV4YH

I got a chance to visit some of our Afghan partners in the DFW area. It’s actually a pretty decent morale boost for me when I get a chance to see them, and suspect it would be good for many of our veterans of the Afghan fight. I’m not sure how many of you are aware of the Afghan Support Center events. They take place at different cities across the United States at varying dates and times. It’s an effort to bring different organizations(some private and some governmental) together to assist with a fairly bureaucratic, and complicated system known as our “immigration process” to one location. I’ve often heard and personally experienced how hard the “process” can be in supporting our Afghan partners in need, but this is something you can get behind if you’re looking for a way to help them become productive American citizens. Thanks Geeta B. FAMIL for all that you do for not only the “guys” but also the families. A special thanks to all the people and organizations who make this work. Today is the International Day of Education. It has been 1,224 days since the Taliban banned teenage girls from attending school and 764 days since they barred women from universities. For over three years, Afghan women have been deprived of their fundamental right to education. The Taliban’s misogynistic policies have plunged entire generations into darkness. On this day, we honor the resilience and struggle of Afghan women as they continue to fight for their right to education.

Hamza Ulfat, a Hazara activist from Afghanistan, supported women’s protests after the Taliban’s return to power. He was imprisoned and brutally tortured in Taliban custody, where his teeth and nails were pulled out. Tragically, he died shortly after his release. A disproportionate number of Hazara activists, journalists, and academics are imprisoned, tortured, and killed by the Taliban. Hazaras have long faced systemic discrimination in Afghanistan.

The Taliban have imposed new restrictions on Afghan women, completely banning female news anchors from appearing on air. Previously, women were permitted to anchor shows with their faces covered, but the Taliban now claim their presence provokes them and other men. This decision is yet another step in their systematic oppression of women and their erasure from society. Silencing women is silencing justice.

Women who fled the Taliban in Afghanistan to Pakistan are now hiding from Islamabad police, taking refuge on farmland outside the city. They sing “My Land,” the anthem of Afghanistan’s fall, in fear of arrest, as Pakistan launch mass arrests of refugees.
