As the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season winds down, the Western Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico are once again areas to watch for potential tropical development. Forecast models, such as the GFS, suggest a tropical wave could form over the Western Caribbean in late October. This wave may then track between the Yucatan Peninsula and Cuba, emerging into the eastern Gulf of Mexico by the first week of November. While considerable uncertainty remains regarding the future intensity, size, and track of future Patty, the west coast of Florida should monitor its progress closely. There is a possibility that this system could bring another hurricane to the region before the season concludes. Don't leave your hurricane response to chance. Contact us today to strengthen your hurricane preparedness and response strategy with our advanced risk intelligence platform and weather data. https://lnkd.in/ex3xuFqy #Hurricane #Patty #Tropics #Insurtech #RiskManagement #Proactive

Hurricane Milton made landfall last night around 8:30 pm EDT near Siesta Key as a Category 3 major hurricane. The central pressure and maximum sustained winds were estimated at 958 mb and 120 mph, respectively. Several hours before landfall, there was an elevated tornado risk across much of the central and southern portion of the Florida Peninsula. Several tornadoes were confirmed and caused damage along the east coast of Florida. Coastal areas north from Bonita Springs and south from Tampa likely experienced anywhere from 5 ft - 8 ft of storm surge with some localized areas experiencing storm surge more than 8 ft. Copious amounts of rain fell across central Florida as Milton underwent an extratropical transition. Anywhere from 6 - 10 inches were registered, with some localized areas experiencing more than 1 ft of rainfall. After landfall, Milton had two wind maxima: one to the right of the storm track (tropical) and one that wrapped around the back of the storm (extratropical). The backside of the storm appeared to have the stronger wind, in association with the interaction with the jet stream. This was a unique event on many fronts and will be analyzed and studied for many years to come. We are offering carriers temporary access to the Opterrix Risk Intelligence Platform to carriers with policyholders in Florida to aid in hurricane response and recovery efforts. Key benefits include the ability to: • Triage claims severity • Optimize adjuster assignments • Assess post-landfall hurricane multi-hazard intensity • Automate stakeholder & policyholder notifications If you would like to assess how your book may have been impacted by Milton, please reach out to connect. https://lnkd.in/ePBQbAjV #Hurricane #Milton #EventResponse #Insurance #Insurtech #ExtremeWeather

Hurricane Milton, a powerful Category 3 storm, slammed into Florida's west coast near Siesta Key around 8:30 PM ET with 120 mph winds. This major hurricane, which had intensified into a Category 5 earlier this week, brings a renewed threat to an area still recovering from Hurricane Helene. Milton is unleashing heavy rain, high winds, and tornadoes across the Tampa Bay area and southwest Florida. The storm surge, predicted to reach up to 15 feet in some areas, poses a catastrophic risk to coastal communities. After crossing Florida, Hurricane Milton will re-emerge in the Atlantic early Thursday, bringing a dangerous storm surge of 3-5 feet to coastal Georgia from Savannah down to the Florida border. Areas north of Savannah, including Charleston, can expect a slightly lower surge of up to 3 feet. #Hurricane #Milton #EventResponse #Insurance #Insurtech #ExtremeWeather #Opterrix

Hurricane Milton is already making its presence felt in Florida, generating a dangerous outbreak of tornadoes hours before its anticipated landfall. As of 2:45 PM ET, there are 12 active tornado warnings in effect, with three classified as Particularly Dangerous Situation (PDS) storms. PDS warnings are reserved for the most severe tornado events, indicating a high probability of strong and violent tornadoes with the potential for significant damage and long tracks. Making matters worse, many of these tornadoes are rain-wrapped, meaning they are obscured by heavy rainfall and difficult to see. This poses an increased risk to residents, as visual confirmation of a tornado may be delayed or impossible. To help visualize the threat, we're using the Opterrix tornadic rotation potential dataset. Shown as yellow and orange bands on the map, this data highlights areas where the storm is most likely to produce tornadoes. ------- We are offering carriers temporary access to the Opterrix Platform to carriers with policyholders in Florida to aid in hurricane response and recovery efforts. Hurricane Milton has intensified rapidly over the last 48 hours, growing from a tropical depression into a major hurricane (Category 3 or higher). It is expected to bring hurricane-force winds and a dangerous storm surge to the northern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula in the next 24 hours. While the latest track forecast shows Milton crossing the Florida Peninsula Wednesday evening into Thursday, there is still uncertainty about the exact time and location of landfall. Regardless, damaging winds and life-threatening storm surge will begin impacting the west coast of Florida as early as Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. Heavy rainfall is also expected across portions of Central Florida, starting today and continuing through Wednesday night, creating the potential for flash flooding. Effective response is key in the face of such extreme weather events. Opterrix is here to help. Our Risk Intelligence Platform provides insurance carriers and risk managers the tools to prepare for, respond to, and recover from tropical events like Hurricane Milton. For example: • Triage claims severity • Optimize adjuster assignments • Assess post-landfall hurricane multi-hazard intensity • Automate stakeholder & policyholder notifications We are offering carriers temporary access to the Opterrix Platform to carriers with policyholders in Florida to aid in hurricane response and recovery efforts. The area of disorganized thunderstorm activity over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico has become more defined, as confirmed by scatterometer data. This observation necessitated an upgrade to Tropical Storm Milton by the National Hurricane Center today. The center of circulation is located approximately 153 miles east of Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico, with maximum sustained winds reaching 40 mph. Due to its previous disorganized structure, models struggled to accurately forecast Milton's development. However, with the better-defined center and very warm SSTs, Milton is now projected to intensify into a Major Hurricane early to mid-next week. The storm is expected to make landfall on Florida's west coast on Wednesday. There is a fair amount of spread in the model track guidance at this time and this won't narrow until the storm begins moving east and intensifies further. A disorganized cluster of thunderstorms over the Central Gulf of Mexico has a diminishing chance of developing into a tropical cyclone this weekend or early next week. This is due to an approaching frontal boundary and the expectation of increased wind shear. Despite the decreased likelihood of tropical cyclone development, Florida, particularly the southern half of the peninsula, is still forecast to receive anywhere from 5-10 inches of additional rainfall next week. We will be monitoring the tropical disturbance as it approaches Florida. If you would like to see how this tropical disturbance might impact your book of business, reach out to us to set up a personalized demo. https://lnkd.in/e4M-RcF5 #Hurricane #Tropics #Flood #Insurance #SevereWeather #Florida
