*Global Photonics Economic Forum 2024 – Day 1* The first day of the Global Photonics Economic Forum kicked off on October 1st, 2024, at FYCMA in Málaga. Attendees were welcomed by Jose Pozo, CTO of Optica, and co-chairman Reinhard Voelkel, alongside key regional representatives, setting the stage for discussions on the collaborative opportunities within the photonics industry. The morning sessions began with a "Semiconductor Perspective" presented by Maria Marced, President of TSMC Europe, followed by a keynote by Luc Van den hove, CEO of imec, who shared cutting-edge research and its implications for photonics. A dynamic CEO panel, moderated by Michael Lebby of Lightwave Logic, Inc., featured industry leaders discussing strategic directions for the industry. The question “Is photonics a semiconductor technology?" was addressed by companies such as NVIDIA and GlobalFoundries. In the afternoon, participants discussed aligning research priorities, the future of photonics manufacturing, and sustainability in glass manufacturing with SCHOTT and Corning Incorporated. Keynotes by Matthew Crowley from Jabil and Chuck Mattera, former CEO of Coherent Corp., provided valuable insights into photonics technology advancements. The day concluded with the Optica i4 Prize Ceremony, where Chuck Mattera was honored with the Individual Prize, and imec received the Corporate Award for their outstanding contributions to the photonics industry. The evening wrapped up with a formal dinner and networking, fostering connections among industry leaders. For more information, visit the event website: https://lnkd.in/gmyMA7qA
