Working to end hunger and its root causes... because no one should be hungry.

About us

Oregon Food Bank's mission is to eliminate hunger and its root causes ... because no one should be hungry. We believe that hunger starves the human spirit and that communities thrive when people are nourished. We work with a cooperative, statewide network of partner agencies to distribute emergency food to hungry families, helping 740,000 people who experience hunger every year. We fight hunger's root causes through public policy advocacy, nutrition and garden education to help people become more self-sufficient and resourceful, and by bringing communities together to strengthen local and regional food systems. Join our movement to end hunger. Become an Employee: You can make a difference daily, no matter what your strengths and interests are. As an employee you'll see first-hand the great need in our community and your work will have a direct impact in the lives of our neighbors experiencing hunger. Volunteer: We need your help! Our volunteers come together from all walks of life to do meaningful work and have fun doing it. Volunteers are critical to our mission. You repackage food donations, lead nutrition education classes, maintain our Learning Gardens, help out in our offices, lend a hand at events, and more! Advocate: Help us put the power of food to work. Through the concerted efforts of people like you, we can ensure that Oregon legislators get the message: providing food to those in need is a priority today, and addressing hunger's root causes is vital to eliminating hunger tomorrow. Donate: You have the power to make a difference for a neighbor in need. A gift of as little as $10 will feed a family of four for three to five days. Give Food: Food solves hunger today, by filling plates with nutritious meals. Whether it's a can of vegetables from your pantry, your donation is distributed through our network of hunger-relief agencies to the tables of hungry families in Oregon and Clark County, Washington.

Meet Itsa, the Associate Director of Equity, People and Administration at Oregon Food Bank. “Oregon Food Bank has made internal changes to continue to put the community that we serve at the forefront and to make them the priority. That really speaks to our mission. If we’re serving a community, and our goal is to be community-oriented, we need to lead with actions and not just words. Oregon Food Bank does that, and it’s a really beautiful thing.” Itsa’s story reminds us that food justice centers people in their daily, lived experience. It means that communities have power over our own food systems and that we are able to make decisions about what we grow, produce, distribute and consume. When we envision communities who never know hunger, we envision communities who can access food with safety and dignity. The Food for All Oregonians campaign envisions an Oregon where all people have access to food no matter where we’re born. Get involved this Hunger Action Month with Food for All Oregonians to increase food access. FoodForAllOR.org/Pledge.

Take action no matter where you are, with your people, to end hunger. This #HungerActionMonth, let’s move beyond food for thought…into Food for ACTION! I hosted my own Food for Action dinner recently - We talked food justice, ate a great meal, vibed to the playlist, and took action to end hunger in our community — all of which was helpfully curated by Oregon Food Bank! So fulfilling to be a part of Hunger Action Month and support my community in this way. And so easy! (I know it’s my job but I would do it anyway!😉) Want to host your own? Check out https://lnkd.in/gjngdCPS! #FoodforAction

Systemic barriers drive hunger and poverty in immigrant communities. Meet Eman Abbas. Eman is a community leader, an advocate, an immigrant, a mother and a proud supporter of Food for All Oregonians. Eman’s fluency in English helped her to navigate the system, though not without difficulty — and she saw how others in her community struggled or were effectively excluded from existing supports because of language barriers. Eman started a Facebook group to share available resources in the community — food distributions, state and local programs, and other nonprofit services. She translated each one into Arabic so everyone in her community could more easily access information. Eman's community advocacy continues to expand through ACCESS Oregon, Muslim Education Trust, Oregon Food Bank and more. "I support the Food for All campaign, because it will make sure that everybody has access to food that they eat, they want, and they know.” Join Eman this Hunger Action Month and pledge to support Food for All Oregonians: FoodForAllOR.org/Pledge.

“Stewarding this land with my family has been the greatest opportunity I’ve ever experienced,” Mia says. “Being able to raise our children knowing that they will learn how to tend and trust the earth, changes everything for me as a mother. It’s been such a leap into liberation to call this collectively Black owned land, our home and sanctuary – we are creating a powerful shift in what feeding our futures looks like.” Black Oregon Land Trust (BOLT) builds community power, making land access possible for Black farmers by securing and retaining affordable farmland and helping them establish their farms. Support BOLT to help farmers like Mia secure and preserve farmland for themselves and future generations: BlackOregonLandTrust.org.
