Estuaries are powerful carbon sinks, capturing and storing carbon to help mitigate climate change. Protecting them is crucial in the fight against global warming. Take action by supporting estuary restoration and protection! Our #CampaignForOregonsEstuaries aims to protect eelgrass and other important estuarine habitats so they can continue mitigating climate change and protecting water quality.🌍💚 Learn more here 👉 https://lnkd.in/guFB7KmV #NationalEstuariesWeek #EstuariesAreEssential #OregonShores #WadeIn Restore America's Estuaries

Eelgrass beds in estuaries are crucial nurseries for marine life, supporting fish, shellfish, and biodiversity. Protecting these underwater meadows ensures a thriving ecosystem. Estuaries can… 🦪 Lessen the local effects of ocean acidification by acting as natural filters, removing excess carbon dioxide from the water 🪶 Support species large and small- for example, the endangered Black Brant relies on estuaris for 80% of their diet 🐟 Provide habitat for 68% of commercial fisheries and 80% of recreational fish landings 🦀 Support coastal economies by bolstering commercial fishing, recreation, and tourism 🌱 Sequester carbon: One acre of eelgrass= 740 lbs of carbon captured annually Did you know that Yaquina Bay alone has lost 50-70% of its Eelgrass beds? Support our Campaign for Oregon’s Estuaries to help us protect these critical ecosystems! 🌱🐟 Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/guFB7KmV #NationalEstuariesWeek #EstuariesAreEssential #OregonShores #WadeIn Restore America's Estuaries
