  • The org design word of the month is "Equifinality." Have you heard of this and what does it mean to you and the work you do? The main principle is that in open systems, a given end state can be reached by many potential means. Also, it can mean that a goal can be reached in many ways. The term and concept is due to Hans Driesch, the developmental biologist, later applied by Ludwig von Bertalanffy, the founder of general systems theory, and by William T. Powers, the founder of perceptual control theory. Additionally, there are resources like the Practitioner Toolkit, recommended books, and job opportunities for organization design professionals. Did you know, ODF is a community of organization design practioners passionate about helping organizations become more effective, successful, and inspiring. To help us accomplish our mission, ODF operates with a volunteer Board encompassing shared leadership goals. When asked what sparked their interest in applying to join the board . . . 🙋♀️Marcia shared, "I'm delighted to be joining the ODF Board. Being a part of the 2023 & 2024 Conference planning committees has given me new insight into the great work that ODF delivers through its learning programs, events and practitioner resources. Organisation Design is such a rewarding profession. I'm keen to increase the reach of ODF and in turn help influence tomorrow's workplaces for the better." 🙋♂️Hamish shared, "My interest stems from my engagement with ODF events over the past few years and a decade working in and around in organization design. I have always found ODF events both inspiring and valuable, and I see this as a unique opportunity to give back to an organization and profession that have greatly enriched my career. I am eager to engage more deeply with the broader community and work collaboratively to enhance the support our Board provides to organisational design professionals." • Looking forward to our Aug 20th "Coffee to Cocktails" Org Design meet-up This month's topic will be: The Loss Experienced in Organization Design Our host, Julian Chender MSOD, ACC, is interested in this discussion because he believes, "every change has an element of loss. We leave what we have and enter a new reality. Even when this change is for the best, we experience loss. Organization Design is planned change that surfaces feelings of loss at the organization, team, and individual level." As always, we will break into two rounds of small group discussions about how we as organization designers support our clients through their experiences of loss — of a job, of colleagues, of position or power. And we’ll discuss how we may support each other in managing this experience in our helping profession. You can sign up for the Zoom link at https://lnkd.in/gNT7ZAni

Additionally, there are resources like the Practitioner Toolkit, recommended books, and job opportunities for organization design professionals.
