State of the Union Station “He (Netanyahu) came to try and change the narrative about Israel’s war and help America see through the lies peddled by the many haters of the Jewish state…This message was driven home far more effectively by what we saw when we left the building….Thousands of anti-Israel protesters were assembled in front of Union Station, celebrating the butchers of Hamas, defacing Columbus Circle, and desecrating the American flag. Bibi called them ‘Iran’s useful idiots,’ but that seriously understated the horrifying atmosphere created by that mass of people glorifying death and trashing America.” Read Rabbi Hauer’s full OpEd in the Washington Examiner :https://lnkd.in/eXsTkJXU

“This Shiva Asar b’Tammuz comes at a particularly challenging time. The war in Israel grinds on and we watch with trepidation as new battlefronts continue to open. While Divine Providence has assigned the United States government a critical role relative to the Jewish people and the State of Israel, that government has been shaken by the dramatic events of the past ten days. And tomorrow, Israel’s Prime Minister will address Congress seeking to strengthen America’s support of Israel during this difficult time. Every one of us can make this day especially meaningful, looking inward and upward, committing to better ourselves, our relationships to each other and to Klal Yisrael, and our commitment to God and His Torah. We must daven to Hashem for Israel, for the heroic soldiers of Tzahal, for the hostages and their families, and for the displaced. And we must pray for the wellbeing of the United States and its leaders and that Hashem place in their hearts to look and act favorably towards our people everywhere, Amen.” Read Rabbi Hauer’s full Shiva Asar b’Tammuz message. Fox News Media asked our EVP, Rabbi Moshe Hauer, and others to weigh in on the escalating and dangerous actions perpetrated by Within Our Lifetime (WOL), a group that 'openly embraces Hamas'. “The movement which we are seeing is not attacking just Jews in Jewish communities. They have a stated intent to impact the country, to change the country, even sometimes expressed as to destroy the country." Read more: https://lnkd.in/eGizFivw

Where can we find goodness in the current tumultuous world we live in? Would you believe that we are getting our strength from the people who are living though horrors beyond their worse nightmares? This past week, the families of the hostages held by Hamas terrorists for the past 286 days organized a “Week of Goodness” to bring positivity into the world via good deeds - all in merit of the safe return of their loved ones. Launched by the family of hostage Hersh Goldberg-Polin, people across the world joined this meaningful initiative throughout the week by learning Torah, volunteering, performing acts of chessed, davening, and more. Each day of the week focused on a different good act. At OU headquarters, our team embraced the effort. On Tuesday, we were fortunate to hear inspirational words of Torah from our EVP Rabbi Moshe Hauer. On Wednesday, OU team members pledged to perform mitzvot in honor of the hostages: “I will light Shabbat candles early this week.” “I will check in on someone I haven’t spoken to in a while.” “I will be patient and kind to those I interact with.” And so many more… What can you do in the merit of the hostages? May our united efforts merit the safe and speedy return of all the hostages.

Our EVP, Rabbi Moshe Hauer, sat down with eJewishPhilanthropy to discuss his recent Jewish Action article about drawing red lines for specific advocacy groups: “Of course, everybody has the right to their opinion, and they have a right to vote the way they want, and they have a right to choose what it means to them to support Israel… [But] I have to ask myself who’s going to be a good partner for me? Who’s going to join in the messaging which to us seems very, very clear what is called for? OK. Somebody could have a different opinion. That’s fine, but that doesn’t make them my partner.” Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eDuyxcrg

Klal Yisrael is experiencing a period of enormous difficulty as Israel is surrounded by active threats and Jews everywhere face growing antisemitism. We are fearful of what the immediate future holds… It is a hallowed tradition observed by some to fast on Erev Shabbat Parshat Chukat to commemorate the twenty-four wagons filled with volumes of Talmud and other Torah works that were burned in France on that day in the year 1242. Tradition connects this event to the words of the Targum Onkelos that open this parsha – ‘da gezeirat orayta’ – which may be translated as “this destroys the Torah.” This Friday, while some of us fast, let all of us join together in our communities, in our shuls and batei medrash, in our schools, camps, and vacation places, to awaken Divine mercy by publicly reciting Tehillim 13, 79, 80, 121, 130 and 142, and by expressing our love, care, and appreciation for each other, for those serving in government, for the hostages and their families, for the soldiers of Tzahal who are fighting to protect us, for the Gedolei Yisrael, and for all those supporting and engaging in the Torah study and practice vital to our present and future.
