Since its designation in 2004, National Preparedness Month has encouraged us all to assess and improve our emergency response and recovery strategies. The past few years have underscored the need for constant vigilance, with natural disasters, public health crises, and other challenges reminding us of the value of advanced preparation. A few weeks ago, we highlighted how OTHSolutions supports communities during hurricane season by tracking and analyzing potential impacts on at-risk infrastructure to ensure rapid response when it matters most. Our work doesn’t stop there. We also support FEMA in bolstering national preparedness through the development of comprehensive federal interagency planning documents for all-hazard contingency operations. Our team has played a crucial role in updating key annexes to the Federal Interagency Operations Plan (FIOP) for Response, including those focused on critical infrastructure, resource management, and earthquakes. Additionally, we’ve enhanced FEMA’s regional capabilities by creating power outage as well as CBRNE hazard annexes for Regions 1, 4, 5 and 6, and an all-hazards plan for Region 4. Our expertise also extends to the National Integration Center, where we’ve helped operationalize location-enabled decision-support tools and fostered the adoption of evolving incident management doctrine.
