As always SXSW 2025 has proven to be a beautiful mashup of innovation, inspiration and community and excitingly this year the future of the outdoors was a central focus thanks to our friends at the Midwest House. As a company that calls Austin home, it’s always great to welcome the world to Texas every March, and this year our SXSW experience started in our own neighborhood with an evening of drinks and impassioned conversation with folks from, AllTrails, onXmaps, Inc., GROUNDED®, Newlab, GOES Health, Trust for Public Land, Michigan Outdoor Recreation Industry Office, ORR and Friends of Grand Rapids Parks. On Wednesday we were joined by thousands of guests at the Midwest House in Austin’s east side where Outdoorsy had the privilege of sponsoring breakfast and the first panel of the day: ‘Reinventing Road Trip Culture: Technology, Accessibility, and Sustainability.’ Madelyn Rutter from TechNexus interviewed Toby Kraus, Sam Shapiro and me about the evolving nature of road trips and the steps that both EV technology and the sharing economy are taking towards increased sustainability and accessibility to the outdoors. Knowing the scale of the sustainability problem we’re all facing, I challenged disrupters like Toby and Sam to consider a GTM strategy that embraces the benefits of the sharing economy - to provide a ‘marketplace-ready-EV’ product for their customers (we're innovating in this space as our Roamly insurance products offer customized insurance coverages for renting in marketplaces), as a great way to generate a payback for their owners plus increase the utilisation of the vehicles they’re selling. This is the type of sustainability ecosystem that a marketplace like Outdoorsy.com helps create and provides a new generation of Millennial and gen Z travelers with more choice and greater alignment with their values. Other panels featured insights from leaders at AllTrails, the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable and OnX Maps enriching our conversations with diverse perspectives on how technology is opening up our world outdoors. Hearing athlete Sasha Dingle share her awe inspiring connections to nature resonated deeply with us at Outdoorsy, reinforcing our belief that nature is an integral part of our human nature. Sharing these experiences with our team members—Neil Robinson, Sean Richards, Blanca Garcia Izaguirre, MBA, Tyler Guthrie, Jeff Cavins—reconnecting with former colleague April Cumming—and building fab relationships with Molly Morgan (Plummer), Molly Stoecklein, Stacy Bare and Ambreen F. Tariq made for the most rewarding day. We also had the pleasure of meeting innovative entrepreneurs like Jonathan Newar from Captain Experiences. Collaborations like these fuel our mission to enhance awareness for the exceptional products we’re developing, aligning with our commitment to sustainability and community engagement.
