Konecranes to supply 125t crane to Bill Gate’s TerraPower plant Konecranes will supply a fully customized 125-ton hoist crane, including a 15-ton auxiliary hoist and a top-running overhead crane with dual trolleys, to TerraPower’s Natrium Reactor Demonstration Plant (a TerraPower and GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy technology project) in Wyoming. The order, from TerraPower’s engineering, procurement, and construction partner Bechtel Corporation, was placed in June 2024, and delivery and installation of the crane system is planned for autumn 2025. Founded by Bill Gates, TerraPower aims to develop advanced nuclear technologies to provide safe, sustainable, and cost-effective energy solutions. The crane will be utilized at the Wyoming site’s Test and Fill Facility (TFF) for maintenance and production support. The TFF is a non-nuclear facility designed to store the approximately 400,000 gallons of sodium needed for Natrium’s coolant system. Konecranes Nuclear Equipment and Services was selected to work on the Test and Fill Facility Bridge Crane for the Natrium Demonstration Project. Bechtel has worked with Konecranes previously on other projects. “We have a longstanding partnership with Bechtel on clean energy projects dating back to the 1930s with the construction of the Hoover Dam and the use of P&H cranes, which are now part of Konecranes,” said Andrew Grooms sales manager, Konecranes Nuclear Equipment & Service. “Since 2021, we have provided technical expertise and high-quality crane designs for the Natrium Project, surpassing standard industry requirements. Our ongoing commitment to this project highlights the significance of our collaboration in addressing global climate change.” #konecranes #overheadcranes #nuclear #hoists #ochmagazine #news

Opportunities abound in Canadian overhead crane sector Common challenges in the Canadian overhead crane sector include finding and training technicians. Keith Norbury reports. Canada, slightly larger than the U.S. but with an eighth of the population, has dozens of manufacturers, installers, and modifiers of overhead cranes. Among them is Givens Engineering, based in London, Ontario. However, unlike most manufacturers, which build steel cranes, Givens focuses on lightweight aluminum cranes “that you can set up on a weekend,” said company founder and president Ray Givens. These enclosed-track cranes, with capacities of about two tons, are very popular in the automotive industry, Givens said. He estimated that in eastern Canada, such lightweight cranes account for about half of the overhead cranes sold today. For Givens, about 50% of its production is shipped to the U.S. The company, with about 80 employees, has a 50,000 square foot manufacturing plant in London, a second 26,000 square foot plant in London, and a 22,000 square foot fabricating facility in Perrysburg, Ohio. About 65% of Givens cranes work in the automotive sector with the remainder in sectors like aerospace, defence industries, agriculture and construction. “The automotive industry is so huge in the United States that the demand is limitless,” Givens said. 👉 To continue reading, please visit - https://lnkd.in/etyBwqCp A big thanks to Givens Engineering Inc., The Vulcan Hoist Company Ltd., Century Cranes & Services, Kolo Training, Norelco, Atlantic Crane & Material Handling and others for participating in this feature. 👉 In case you missed it, here is a link to the fall issue - https://lnkd.in/e9gFK727 #ochmagazine #canadianmarketreport #fallissue

Konecranes Leadership Changes Konecranes is adjusting its operating model to support strategy deployment and growth ambitions. As of January 1, 2025, the company will have three Business Areas: Industrial Service, Industrial Equipment and Port Solutions, instead of the current two, Industrial Service and Equipment, and Port Solutions. The new operational model aims at enhancing growth, accelerating efficiency and continued profitability improvement. The change will not impact Konecranes’ financial reporting, as the three Business Areas currently are separate reporting segments. Konecranes combined Industrial Service and Equipment into one Business Area under same leadership in 2022. Since then, the company’s industrial business model has been simplified and harmonized. “For over two years, we have successfully managed the Industrial Service and Equipment Business Area as one unified entity. This has allowed us to effectively simplify our Industrial go-to-market model and harmonize our product offering, and we feel that we have largely reached the benefits we were seeking when combining the businesses. As we expect our business to grow, we want to ensure that we have the right operating model in place to support our growth ambitions especially in Industrial Service. Despite the change, our common frontlines and customer focus will remain steadfast. I am confident that this change will accelerate our decision-making and position us better to achieve our long-term ambitions,” says Anders Svensson, President and CEO of Konecranes.
