Reimagining equity to build wealth for all.
About us
Ownership Works is a new nonprofit organization that partners with companies and investors to provide all employees with the opportunity to build wealth at work. Through partnerships, network-building, education, data, and storytelling, we’re inspiring a groundswell of interest among business leaders and investors to provide all employees with the opportunity to participate in the value they help create. Ownership Works brings together an unprecedented consortium of corporations, foundations, investors, labor advocates and pension funds that recognize the power of employee ownership to unlock new levels of success for companies while creating a pathway to wealth creation for workers. Through movement building and hands-on guidance, Ownership Works envisions a future in which broad-based employee ownership is the new norm at work. At scale, we believe employee ownership can help millions of lower-income workers and people of color build savings and wealth, often for the first time, at businesses that are more dynamic, resilient, and successful. In 2024, Ownership Works was certified as a Great Place To Work!

Ownership Works reposted this
For the final day of #WEoBNYC2024, we’re highlighting Purpose-Driven Leadership. We are incredibly grateful to Brandon Brahm, Partner, Co-Head of KKR Ascendant and Anna-Lisa Miller, Founder & CEO of Ownership Works, for a special #WEoBNYC2024 fireside chat, “Ownership Works & Creating Value on PE-Backed Boards”. During this dynamic discussion led by WEoB’s own Si-Yeon Kim, our #WEoBNYC2024 attendees learned how KKR and Ownership Works are driving growth and lasting impact for companies and employees through the development, implementation, and continued evaluation of holistic broad-based employee ownership programs. Thanks Brandon and Anna-Lisa for this powerful session, sharing key insights for our members and guests around enhancing value creation within boards of private equity-backed companies -- emphasizing effective governance and purpose-driven strategy to elevate performance in a competitive market. #sharedownership #ownershipculture #elevatingimpact

Every October, we commemorate #EmployeeOwnershipMonth by celebrating the impact of the employee ownership movement. But what exactly is employee ownership? "Employee ownership" is a term for any arrangement in which a company’s employees own shares in their company or the right to the value of shares in their company, according to The National Center for Employee Ownership (NCEO). Employee ownership is a broad concept that can take many forms, ranging from #stockoptions, stock grants, synthetic equity (granting the right to the value of shares but not the shares themselves), #ESOPs, worker cooperatives, and employee ownership trusts. What does #employeeownership mean to you? Let us know in the comments below! Learn more about Ownership Works' mission to advance the employee ownership movement: https://lnkd.in/emngfabX.

What does it mean for a company to embody a culture of #ownership? What does it look like when employees at all levels of an organization feel like owners in their company? Ownership Works will share a video each month highlighting a company’s journey to develop an ownership culture and how #employeeownership transformed the organization. Today, we spotlight Ingersoll Rand, an American multinational company that provides flow creation and industrial products. Today marks the start of #EmployeeOwnershipMonth, an opportunity to celebrate and recognize the many ways that employee ownership is positively impacting businesses, communities, and the lives of workers across the nation. Broad-based employee ownership can be transformative for companies and life-changing for workers. It’s smarter business, and it’s the right thing to do. As part of Employee Ownership Month, we are launching our #VoicesOfOwnership series to share the voices of workers describing the significant impact that becoming an employee-owner has had on their lives. #EmployeeVoices #OwnershipWorks

To grow the #sharedownership movement, we need the voices of leaders who have witnessed the powerful effects of employee ownership on companies and employees. Last week, Charter Next Generation CEO Kathy Bolhous highlighted Ownership Works — and the impacts of employee ownership at her company — at The Executives' Club of Chicago's Workforce Development Summit. The event was a gathering of executives dedicated to exchanging strategies, including #employeeownership, that prepare workforces for future challenges and foster resilience and economic mobility. Ownership Works is grateful to partners like Kathy who help us advance the shared ownership movement!
At today’s Workforce Development Summit, industry experts shared insights on adapting to technological advancements and changing economic landscapes to both equip employers for success and provide employees with the skills and support they need to thrive. Key takeaways: * Workforce development programs are win-win-win propositions: for employers, for individuals, and for entire communities. * A movement toward sharing corporate ownership, and creating an ownership culture, is occurring within the private equity world. If companies make their “pies” bigger no one is getting less. The goal is to create a bigger pie so that everyone can have a piece of it. * Technology is changing rapidly, and more and more jobs will continue to be automated. But job growth created by technology will continue to outpace job losses. * Chicago businesses need to leverage the existing workforce ecosystem within our city. Companies are missing out on top talent because they are not tapping into resources that already exist within overlooked neighborhoods on the South and West sides. Thank you to Kristen Broady, Ph.D. (Senior Economist, Economic Advisor & Director of the Economic Mobility Project, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago), Rob McGhee (Senior Vice President, Community Impact Territory Manager, Fifth Third Bank), Kathy Bolhous (CEO, Charter Next Generation), Molly Oelerich (Senior Vice President, Fifth Third Bank), Juatise Gathings (Co-Founder, Just Act Partners), Matt Johanson (Co-Founder, Just Act Partners), Ruben Abarca (Head of Partnerships, Discovery Partners Institute), Dani Houchin (Executive Director and Trustee, Origami Works Foundation), Tom Vranas (Chief of Staff, Innovation and People, Zentro Internet), Will Irvin (Director of Career Readiness and Postsecondary Success, Youth Guidance), Paul Thompson (Chief Economic Empowerment Officer, YWCA Metropolitan Chicago), Pamela Williams (Managing Director, CBO Collective) and Nicole R Robinson (CEO, YWCA Metropolitan Chicago). Thank you Fifth Third Bank for your partnership and invaluable support at today’s summit.
