Exciting updates from Oxfam on digital rights! On 23 Sept, the UN adopted the Global Digital Compact (GDC), a major step toward comprehensive digital cooperation and AI governance. Oxfam’s response applauds its focus on rights and governance, but also points out areas for improvement, like ensuring digital equity and protecting civic space. On 26 Sept, Oxfam Asia co-hosted a session at the #UNRBHR Forum in Bangkok with Wikimedia Foundation, World Benchmarking Alliance, and AICHR Malaysia to explore how the GDC impacts ASEAN, tech accountability, and human rights due diligence. We also launched our new paper, "Rights and Responsibilities," which dives into the tech industry’s role in exacerbating or addressing inequality, focusing on five pillars: access, civic space, data privacy, automation, and governance reforms. What does the future hold for care advocacy? We recently hosted a showcasing event to celebrate our collective successes and identify key priority areas moving forward. Our exciting panel featured leaders in care work across Asia: Cecilia Tinonin from UN Women talked about the recent data snapshot from UN Women and how it can inform decision making on care. Channe Lindstrom Oghuzan from United Nations ESCAP talked about their recent model framework on care as a guiding tool for states to design care responsive policies. Sona Mitra from Institute for What Works to Advance Gender Equality talked about the importance of locally rooted think tanks and their contributions to the discourse on care. Amuda Mishra from the Asia Feminist Coalition highlighted the need for voices of feminist actors to be centred in the conversation on care. While we have made strides in Asia regionally and national on transformative care policies, a lot needs to be done to increase investments in date on care, and care-responsive infrastructure and services. We need collectively to drive such investments which would lead to tangible changes in the lives of caregivers. Together, let’s drive these vital investments and make a tangible difference in the lives of those who care! 💪💙 #CareAdvocacy #FutureOfCare #OxfamAsia #CollectiveImpact
