Today and every day we think of the people – overwhelmingly Palestinian, as well as Israeli, Lebanese and those of other nationalities – who have been senselessly killed over the last year. And all Israeli hostages and illegally detained Palestinian prisoners. It’s now been one year since Israel began its devastating military offensive against Gaza, in response to the horrific attacks by Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups. The extreme violence has created an unimaginable nightmare for millions of people. It’s a catastrophic failure from complicit world leaders to demand a ceasefire and stop selling arms to Israel. Everyone deserves to live in freedom, with dignity and self-determination. World leaders must do everything in their power to bring peace and justice for all. #CeasefireNOW

Amitabh Behar, Executive Director of Oxfam International, addresses the growing influence of the ultra-wealthy in shaping global policies, making it harder to solve big problems like climate change and poverty. He argues that it's not just political tensions holding back progress but a system where the richest few have too much power. In this video, he explains why we need to fight back and work together for a more equal world where resources serve everyone, not just the top 1%. Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/dD57YREK

🧑🤝🧑 Over 350,000 Europeans demanded the EU to #TaxTheRich. They demanded that the EU make the super-wealthy pay what they owe. Europeans, along with economists, politicians, trade unions, NGOs and even millionaires, joined the cause. We are building a movement. We saw wealth taxation enter into political debates. At the EU level, the European Commission, for the first time, organised debates on wealth taxation and included it as a proposal in their report. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eq_MC6-T At a global level, we saw a historic first w/ the G20 agreeing to cooperate on taxing the ultra-rich. Oxfam was there & handed over 1.5 million signatures from people globally demanding a tax on the ultra-wealthy. While the ECI may be over, the #TaxTheRich campaign continues.

The Commissioner for Human Rights, Michael O'Flaherty, has expressed serious concerns about how authorities are treating asylum seekers, refugees and migrants at the Poland-Belarus border after his visit last month.  “The invocation of national security cannot serve as a carte blanche to adopt measures that raise questions of compatibility with human rights standards,” he said. 🔗 Read more: https://bit.ly/47JeBHK Commissioner O’Flaherty asks Poland to:    -       Stop pushbacks to Belarus, which put people at serious risk of human rights violations.    -       Abolish the new law that allows for the use of firearms against people at the border in certain circumstances.    -       Make sure humanitarian workers can reach those in need by granting them access to restricted border areas.    -       Stop criminalising humanitarian aid workers and drop charges related to legitimate human rights work. -       Counter disinformation and negative narratives about the border situation. This statement echoes the urgent calls from local organizations providing lifesaving support at the border, who are warning about escalating violence and harsh treatment.   The rest of Europe cannot continue to turn a blind eye to this situation. It's time to hold Poland accountable and uphold human rights standards at the EU’s external borders.

Poland needs to respect its international human rights obligations on the Belarusian border, says Commissioner O’Flaherty - Commissioner for Human Rights - www.coe.int
