    Happy Labor Day! Checkout the history timeline of Labor Day below. Find out why it is so important, why we celebrate it and the backstory of what led to this important federal holiday: The Industrial revolution: The Industrial Revolution took place from 1760- 1840. New technology and efficient manufacturing was created, but this led to long working days with little to no time for a life outside of work. This included 12-hour workdays with even children as young as 5 working to have basic necessities. First Labor Day Parade of U.S History: On September 5, 1882, 10,000 workers took unpaid time off to march from City Hall to Union Square in New York City. This was the first Labor Day Parade in U.S History. Haymarket Riot: Due to unsafe work conditions and labor intense hours, this led to the Haymarket Riot in 1886. The riot resulted in numerous Chicago police and workers being injured or killed. This watershed event was the climax of social unrest among the working class and became a major rallying cry for labor activists. It's Official: From more riots and employees boycotting unfair labor rights, on June 28, 1894, President Grover Cleveland signed for Labor Day to be a federal holiday in attempt to restore ties with American Workers. More than a century later, the day of appreciation was turned into a paid holiday off (with unknown to who created Labor Day Weekend). Present Day Labor Day: Today, the first Monday of every September is recognized as Labor Day. We celebrate this national U.S Holiday in regards to American Workers in the work that they do. Labor Day commemorates the Labor Movements and its efforts to improve working conditions in America.
