Panelists from Public & Government Affairs at Edelman, Duolingo and American Heart Association gathered at #PRDecoded to discuss the role of comms in building public trust. Steven Weiss, national VP of advocacy communications at American Heart Association, discussed a key factor in building trust for organizations, staying true to any public statements: “It becomes critical when in a polarized environment to know that just about any issue, any public policy issue, that you might come out and talk about; for or against; could be weaponized against you. You have to know that if you are going to put your foot forward, that you are going to need to back it up: you need to sustain that effort, you need to be there for the purpose of driving change. You can’t decide that you are going to speak out about a topic on one hand, and then back away as a result of the flack you get on the other end.” Panelists included:  - Monica Earle, senior PR manager, Duolingo - Luis Montero, head of technology, policy, public & government affairs Public & Government Affairs at Edelman - Steven Weiss, national VP, advocacy communications, American Heart Association - Moderator: Lindsay Walters Clifton, managing director, Public & Government Affairs at Edelman Global Advisory
