Did you know that there are many words in the English language that have their roots in flax and linen? This month's word is... lingerie! Today, we associate lingerie with a specific kind of clothing, but originally it was a word referring to any women's undergarments. Linen undergarments were particularly important before mass-production of clothing, because it absorbed sweat and kept outer-layers clean for longer. What other words have their roots in flax and linen? Tune back in next month or comment some.

The PA Flax Project aims to revitalize the flax-for-linen industry to benefit both urban and rural communities!
About us
Flax is a climate-positive plant that’s easy to grow. It requires little-to-no chemical inputs or irrigation. It protects waterways, remediates soil, and provides pollinator habitat. Flax’s most valuable use is for linen production. Demand for linen grows as consumers turn away from synthetics and demand natural fibers. Flax can also be turned into dozens of other products, making it a versatile and high-value crop. But in order to become linen and other products, flax must be processed. The United States has ample space for growing flax, but we lack the infrastructure for processing. There used to be a significant textile industry in PA, but the equipment and infrastructure are long gone. PA Flax Project is organizing farmers, creating infrastructure for processing, and making American linen possible again.

Flax experts took the stage for a series of presentations and an engaging discussion about the potential of flax, a miraculous rotation crop that sequesters carbon and has many applications, from linen textiles to oils for paints and flooring, to seed for food. Thank you to the panelists Heidi Barr, Co-founder and CEO of the PA Flax Project, Alvin Ulrich, Founder of Biolin Research, and Marie Demaegdt, Textile and Sustainability Manager at the Alliance for European Flax-Linen & Hemp, for sharing their work and to the audience for their questions and contributions to the conversation. The North American Linen Association Board of Directors Heidi Barr from PA Flax Project and Alvin Ulrich of Biolin Research enjoyed being on the panel of Flaxperts at Parsons School of Design— with the Alliance for European Flax-Linen & Hemp. Thank you to the Healthy Materials Lab at Parsons School of Design for creating and hosting a fantastic event. We enjoyed the panel discussion, which, due to unforeseen circumstances, had a robust online engagement, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration. The Regeneration of Flax exhibition is open until November 12th. Visit to learn about the many applications of Flax, from textiles to flax-crete! #RegenerationofFlax #Flaxperts #NorthAmericanLinenAssociation

Did you know that there are many words in the English language that have their roots in flax and linen? This month's word is... linseed! Linseed is the oil that is made from flax/linen seeds, and is often used in oil paint, as well as a coating due to its ability to repel water and decrease rust - a very important part of construction work! What other words have their roots in flax and linen? Tune back in next month or comment some.

From seed to fiber, every part of the flax plant can be made into usable materials - but HOW exactly does a plant transform into a textile-ready fiber? PA Flax Project took HML through traditional hand-processing methods that separate the long, golden flax fibers from unwanted plant material. Discover the journey from field to fabric and explore this ancient craft that is inspiring new creations at our 'Regeneration of Flax' Exhibition, opening September 30th! 🔗Exhibition details: https://lnkd.in/evuUW6Vi Special thanks to exhibition sponsors Duracryl Global Flooring, Forbo Flooring Systems, and Tuscarora Mills. #regenerationFLAX
