Today was a hectic day for the digital value chain, with two unrelated events causing widespread chaos. We would like to provide some clarity as we are receiving a lot of requests for information. Here is what you need to know about the TWO separate events that occurred in close succession to one another over the past 12 hours. 1. CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity company providing endpoint protection had a bug in the recent update of their flagship Falcon product. This update affected computers or machines running Windows, both on premise or in the cloud that caused the machine to enter a state called BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) that is a stuck state. Crowdstrike has released a manual fix for this issue and is in the process of rolling back the software update, yet this is still an ongoing incident. 2. Microsoft Azure ’s Central US cloud region experienced an outage yesterday. Azure experienced failures with service management operations and connectivity or availability of services. Among the impacts of the outage is the downtime of major airlines across the US, which caused over 21,000 flights to be delayed.
