Last Saturday we celebrated the Parkinson’s community at our annual fundraising event, Step Forward! A big thank you to everyone who made Step Forward possible: the sponsors, vendors, volunteers, and attendees! The weather held out and we moved to the exercise demos, sang along with the band, ate the delicious food, and learned about PD resources at the vendor tables. A good time was had by all! The prize baskets, 50/50 raffle, and new PFWPA hats were all a hit! A big congratulations to all the raffle and fundraising winners! As of now, we have raised $89,668 for Step Forward! Although, the fundraising prizes have already been awarded, please consider donating to help us to hit our goal of $100,000. The best part of Step Forward is knowing all money raised will go to Parkinson’s programs and resources in the area! Help us get to $100,000 by donating here: https://lnkd.in/ecUnhG99 #parkinsons #parkinsonsdisease #parkinsonscommunity #parkinsonssupport #parkinsonsadvocacy #pittsburgh #pfwpa

It is unfortunate that another well-known athlete has announced a Parkinson's diagnosis. Parkinson's is on the rise and the number of individuals diagnosed with Parkinson’s is expected to double between now and 2040. Our own Casey Peluso shared her thoughts on the announcement yesterday with KDKA-TV | CBS Pittsburgh. Watch the segment below. That's why here at PFWPA we raise awareness about the disease and provide local resources and programs to individuals and their loved ones to live with confidence wherever they are in their Parkinson's journey. Step Forward is THIS SATURDAY, September 28th from 11am-2pm at the Pittsburgh Shrine Center's Picnic Pavilion in Cheswick! We are getting excited about our annual community fundraising event and wanted to highlight some of our great vendors. Returning again this year is Evia Greek! They will be serving authentic Greek cuisine that’s made with seasonal, fresh, and local ingredients. Evia is Greek comfort food at its best! Why did we want Evia to cater our Step Forward event again this year? Not only are they wonderful people who make delicious food, but Greek food follows the Mediterranean diet. While it’s commonly known for its heart-healthy and diabetes-friendly benefits, the Mediterranean diet has also shown neuroprotective properties, making it a positive fuel choice for people with Parkinson’s disease. Come to Step Forward and enjoy this food and your body will thank you! SIGN UP for Step Forward before it's too late ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eedSiahd Read more about the benefits of the Mediterranean diet and Parkinson's here: https://lnkd.in/ePy8nyTu Check out Evia's website to see the full menu! https://lnkd.in/e9MiJgQq #parkinsons #parkinsonsdisease #parkinsonscommunity #parkinsonssupport #pittsburgh #cheswick #pfwpa #StepForward

Third party fundraisers are a great way to put your personal spin on raising awareness and funds for a cause that means something to you. Last weekend, a local high schooler hosted a fundraising event in Zelienople that raised over $3,000 for PFWPA. Addison Winkle used her senior high school project as an opportunity to give back. Her grandfather has Parkinson's disease (PD) and is involved with PFWPA's exercise classes. Addison is a softball player and combined her passion for the sport with her connection to PD that formed the Slow Pitch Softball Tournament fundraiser! Addison created flyers and t-shirts, coordinated the teams, had raffle baskets, and concessions. It was a the perfect combination of purpose and community....and some friendly competition! Thank you, Addison for all of your efforts! Are you interested in creating a third party fundraiser for PFWPA? If so, contact ➡️ info@pfwpa.com to learn more and get started! #parkinsonscommunity #parkinsonsawareness #parkinsonsdisease #parkinsonssupport #pfwpa #pittsburgh
