  • Harvesting Goodness & Sharing the Bounty! On August 8th, our Youth Growers Program, in partnership with Against All Odds Compton, celebrated a fruitful harvest at Greater Watts Community Garden. The green beans and cucumbers they grew were more than just produce—they were a bridge to community and connection! In a heartwarming display of collaboration, this fresh bounty was shared with residents at Hollywood Community Housing’s Gramercy Apartments, one of PFGLA’s grant recipients. This exchange wasn’t just about veggies; it was about bringing together our community and strengthening bonds. Many Gramercy Apartments residents are also active in their own rooftop garden, making this shared harvest even more special. It’s a beautiful example of how working together can create a ripple effect of goodwill and nourishment. A huge thank you to everyone involved for making this possible—your efforts show the incredible power of partnership and the joy of giving back. Here’s to more collaborations that bring us closer together and grow our community spirit! #YouthGrowers #GardenEducation #AgainstAllOddsCompton #GreaterWattsCommunityGarden

  • 🌱🌟 Youth Growers Program Wrap-Up! 🌟🌱 We’re excited to share that the Youth Growers Program, a vibrant partnership between Against All Odds Compton and Greater Watts Community Garden, has blossomed into a summer success! 🌻👩🌾👨🌾 Over the past 8 weeks, every Tuesday and Thursday, students from Against All Odds Compton rolled up their sleeves and got their hands dirty, diving into the world of soil science and garden ecosystems. Under the expert guidance of Master Farmer Kevin Ridley, these young gardeners planted watermelon, cucumbers, and green beans, nurturing their growth from tiny seeds to a bountiful harvest. 🍉🥒🌱 But the learning didn’t stop there! Garden members from Greater Watts Community Garden regularly visited to share their wisdom and fresh produce, enriching the students’ experience and expanding their palates with new fruits and veggies. This summer program not only provided a fun and educational escape from the usual routine but also fostered a deeper curiosity about where our food comes from and how it grows. The students gained invaluable gardening skills and took home the fruits (and veggies) of their labor to share with their families. A huge shoutout to everyone involved for making this program a blooming success and giving our youth the tools to grow, learn, and thrive! 🌿🌟 #YouthBuildGrowers #GardenEducation #AgainstAllOddsCompton #GreaterWattsCommunityGarden
