In February 2025, PAWS attended the Best Friends Animal Society Annual Conference in Palm Springs. Representing our team were our Director of Shelter Operations, Director of Programs & Engagement, and Foster & Volunteer Coordinator, all eager to bring back valuable insights to strengthen our life-saving work. The New York State Legislature passed the Puppy Mill Pipeline Bill, banning the sale of dogs, cats, and rabbits at retail pet stores, and acknowledging the barbaric practices of large-scale commercial breeding — aka puppy mills. As the year comes to an end, we'd like to "paws" to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of you. As the only open-admission Animal Shelter serving Teton Valley, ID, PAWS has had the honor of caring for 166 dogs and 184 cats this year. That’s nearly one new pet entering our shelter every day! While many find homes quickly, others stay for weeks or months, and every pet receives compassionate, loving care from our dedicated team. But our mission extends far beyond sheltering animals. As the only regional organization providing support at Both Ends of the Leash, we offer financial assistance to pet owners in three local counties in WY and ID. This vital service prevents suffering, keeps pets safe, and helps pet families stay together. We could not do this critical work without the support of our passionate community. We thank you, we appreciate you, and we look forward to creating a larger impact together in the New Year! PAWS is one of the few organizations nationwide tackling animal welfare at both ends of the leash. We offer financial assistance to local pet owners, preventing suffering and keeping pets in loving homes. This year, the demand for our help has grown dramatically. We’ve received calls from all over Wyoming and Idaho—from pet owners in need of financial assistance to regional shelters asking if we have kennel space. We offered financial assistance to 970 local families this year, and since we started operating our shelter in Driggs, ID, saved more than 1,100 local pets.
