To close out #ServiceDogMonth, we wanted to recap an impactful experience we had as part of our annual sales meeting this past summer. Melissa Baern is the supervisor of foundation relations and planned giving at NEADS World Class Service Dogs, and presented about the work her organization does, and how a longstanding partnership with the #PattersonFoundation has positively impacted their ability to train a wide range of service dogs to meet the needs of people with a variety of disabilities or hearing loss. We then heard from public speaker Katelynne Steinke, who shared her story and introduced us to her NEADS service dog, Jones. All funds raised during the silent auction portion of our sales meeting, combined with outright donations, went directly towards supporting NEADS. In total, we raised $12,000 for this excellent organization!

Thursdays are for pupdates! As #ServiceDogMonth continues, we are happy to report that Rico, one of five Autism Dog Services Inc. puppies we funded last year as part of a grant from the #PattersonFoundation, is thriving! Accredited by Assistance Dogs International, Autism Dog Services (ADS) works to foster the integration of children and youth with autism by training, placing, and supporting service dogs that offer safety, companionship, and independence. Rico has become a travel pro who loves to go “up north” with his puppy raisers, and is working on his next set of age-appropriate skills and socialization goals. This fall, he will go through his one-year assessment with ADS staff trainers, to ensure he remains on the right track. Keep up the great work, Rico!
