Happy Birthday, Emma Koehler! Yesterday was our namesake’s birthday so it was a good time to remind ourselves why Emma’s story is at the heart of our culture at Hotel Emma: Emma Koehler's story is at the heart of our culture because her story is one worth knowing and one worth admiring – the amazing and noble life she lead is the reason we work at a hotel named Emma.   Emma Koehler’s passion and pioneering spirit at a time when women did not even have the legal right to vote is inspiring. We believe that of the many ways Emma earned the right to the beautiful tribute that is Hotel Emma, the examples we admire the most are: her courage, integrity and independence after Otto’s death; her resilience and innovation to keep the brewery open and successful during prohibition; and her sense of community as San Antonio’s largest and best employer.   There is no other woman in history who did what Emma Koehler did, and her many examples of what it means to be what we call “Emma Strong” are why we are proud to work at Hotel Emma. Today is not only the Hotel's 8 Year Anniversary but did you know that 109 years ago today our namesake and hero Emma Koehler took over Pearl Brewery? Why November 12th? Oh, it's a good story (hint: there's a murder involved) but an even better story is that Emma managed Pearl through the toughest of times and created a legacy that lives on here at Hotel Emma with all of our present day associates.
