The U.S. Supreme Court overturned a 40-year-old precedent directing federal courts to defer to agency interpretations of ambiguous statutes. What should we expect now? On October 16, our expert panel will delve into implications for government agencies focused on health. This event features University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School experts Allison Hoffman, Holly Fernandez Lynch, JD, MBE, and Kate Shaw, and will be moderated by LDI’s Director of Policy Strategy Julia Julia Hinckley, JD. About us
Founded in 1967, the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics at the University of Pennsylvania (Penn LDI) was the first academic institute of its kind, uniting the scholarly and clinical strengths of Penn’s leading business and medical schools. Over fifty years later, Penn LDI remains one of the most productive and influential health policy research groups in the nation. Penn LDI convenes experts from all of Penn’s twelve schools, the University of Pennsylvania Health System, and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to address our most pressing health care challenges. Through strong translation, dissemination, and policy engagement strategies, LDI bridges the gap between research and policy, ensuring that sound research evidence reaches policymakers and informs key debates. We invite you to learn more and connect with us at ldi.upenn.edu and on Twitter @PennLDI.

Last week, MSHP alumna Aditi Vasan and collaborator Rohan Khazanchi, MD, MPH spoke with Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics (Penn LDI) about the impact of neighborhood violence on pediatric acute care utilization and unmet physical and mental health care needs. Framing exposure to violence as both a driver of health inequities and a consequence of structural racism and poverty, they investigate the drivers of adverse health outcomes connected to neighborhood violence. Their research points to abandoned housing remediation and cash transfers to alleviate poverty as strategies to reduce health disparities from violence, and provides insights for both clinical practice and policymaking. Eugenia South, another MSHP and National Clinician Scholar Program alumna, is also a contributing author to this work! We are so proud of work that our scholars are doing to improve health outcomes and address root causes of health disparities. #AdvocacyinAction

Great to be back at Wharton for a conference on Health Care and Generative AI! Couldn’t agree more with Micky Tripathi that the 2 biggest challenges and opportunities for AI in Health Care are: 1. Getting signal from the noise (so much data, in so many formats). 2. Patients are still left out of the equation (Gen AI can level the playing field). Thanks to Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics (Penn LDI) and Wharton AI & Analytics Initiative for hosting!
