Meet Diane Bournelis, executive assistant, administration, at Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center who recently received the hospital’s 2024 Excellence Award for Relationship-Based Care Spirit of Caring. Diane’s a point of contact for nearly every staff member in the hospital as well as patients, their families and the community at large. In their nomination, Diane’s colleagues said that she “models trust as there is not any task too big or too small” for her to accept, own and complete beautifully. “And, she treats everyone with whom she comes in contact with a smile, respect and honor.” Diane joined Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center ahead of its opening in 2022 and has been with Penn State Health for five years. She calls herself a “true nurturer at heart.” A Lancaster County native, she resides in Manor Township with her husband, their two children and their pup. She’s most happy spending time with her family, including her parents, her identical twin sister (and built-in best friend) and their exactly one-year-older brother.

Meet the Supply Chain team at Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center, which recently received the hospital’s 2024 Excellence Award for Professional Excellence. Patients may never see them, but the team plays a critical role in their care. “They’re the behind-the-scenes heroes, making sure we have what is needed every day, 24 hours a day to care for our patients,” said Susan Stahl, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) nurse manager who nominated Supply Chain for the award. Among the many examples of their dedication and commitment that Susan provided in her nomination was the time when she requested an item that wasn’t available at Lancaster Medical Center. A Supply Chain team member sourced the item at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, and drove up there on a Friday evening to get the item and bring it back to the ICU care team. “This is what the vision and mission of Lancaster Medical Center and Penn State Health is. We couldn’t ask for a nicer team to work with.”

A significant advancement in community health has arrived in Harrisburg. The new 'Health To Go' vending machine, a collaboration between Penn State College of Medicine, UPMC Central Pa. and Dauphin County, provides free health and personal care items around the clock and facilitates connections to local services. In its first month, it provided over 500 items to 118 individuals, including hygiene kits, safer sex kits and naloxone kits. This early utilization underscores the significant need for such resources in the community. Learn more about this initiative and its role in addressing community needs: https://bit.ly/4cpqRh3
