Behind every piece of legislation, there's a story of dedication and perseverance. We are grateful and proud of the hard work and dedication of two key PBA Family Law Section members Carolyn Zack and Robb Bunde who played crucial roles in drafting and advocating for HB 917/Act 12 of 2024, the Uniform Family Law Arbitration Act! This legislation, which officially passed in April, aims to streamline family law arbitration processes in Pennsylvania. During this Pro Bono Month we proudly recognize our Real Property, Trust and Probate Section for their outstanding Pro Bono Life Planning Clinics! In 2021, the RPPT Law Section launched a groundbreaking pro bono program to offer estate planning services to low-income individuals at no cost. Through this initiative, volunteer lawyers draft essential documents like simple wills, financial powers of attorney, and advance health care directives. The Section employs two innovative clinic models: 1. Law School Clinical Educational Model: Partnering with law schools, this model allows law students to lead client conversations and drafting under the supervision of volunteer attorneys. This offers a unique mentoring opportunity while students gain practical skills. 2. Legal Services Model: Collaborating with community legal services organizations, volunteer attorneys meet with clients identified by these organizations to prepare vital estate planning documents.
