In philanthropy, trust isn’t just a value—it’s a strategy for lasting change. Trust-based philanthropy empowers communities by removing barriers and fostering transparency between funders and nonprofits. Learn how this model is shaping a more equitable future and making philanthropy truly responsive. 🌍 "We asked difficult but important questions such as: How would we decide how much funding to give to individual groups within our networks? What information would we request from grantees at the beginning, in the middle and at the end of the grant? What role should donor partners play? How will we govern ourselves?" — People's Action Executive Director, Sulma Arias. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eJ6-gyZz

National grassroots organizing network. We build power for the multiracial working class.
About us
People’s Action builds the power of poor and working people, in rural, suburban and urban areas, to win change through issue campaigns and elections. When we say “poor and working people,” we mean all of us who are hurt by the 1% and corporations: poor people, low-income people, working class people, professionals, small business owners and unemployed people. We mean Black, white, Latino, Asian and Native people. We mean youth and students, and we mean retired people, elderly people and people with disabilities. We mean men, women, transgender, and gender non-conforming. We mean straight people and LGBTQ people. We mean citizens, and we mean immigrants. All of us. You can find job openings from our network and other progressive organizations at https://movementbuillders.us.

Wow! The work of PEOPLE ORGANIZED FOR WESTSIDE RENEWAL was included in Human Rights Watch. The article tells the story of Sonja Verdugo, one of their members who slipped into life on the streets. POWER is one of our grantees and they are part of the People's Action Institute. The feature is really informative and made for visual learners like me. Check it out if you want to learn more about the struggle to find a house in Los Angeles. https://lnkd.in/etf9ppMh

People's Action Executive Director, Sulma Arias, was recently a featured guest on the 22nd Century Initiative’s Anti-Authoritarian Podcast to expose authoritarian scapegoat tactics and explain how connection and a revival of community and worker organizing is key to stopping their takeover. "The antidote to authoritarianism is connection. Organizing is about connecting people, and it's in connecting and coming out of the isolation that we discover one another." Over the next 18 years, states are tasked with allocating their portion of the $50 billion dollar opioid settlements from manufacturers, distributors, and retailers. To aid policymakers in this critical decision, a national coalition of 130 organizations comprised of public health experts and drug reform advocates from across more than 30 states has released a roadmap directing funds to evidence-based solutions to eliminate preventable overdose deaths. Policies must include funding access to all forms of FDA-approved medication and harm reduction services, expanding housing and wraparound support services for people who use drugs and those with drug-related convictions, and supporting second-chance employment, recovery-to-work programs, and the expungement of past criminal convictions.
