PharmStars hosts forums where digital health innovation leaders in pharma connect and share challenges and successes! The recent PharmStars’ pharma member roundtable discussion on ⭐ "Challenges and Lessons in Decentralized Clinical Trials and Remote Patient Monitoring" ⭐ is a great example. In our last post we shared the benefits of these approaches. In this post we’ll share what pharma innovation leaders see as barriers to implementation.
In polls conducted of the PharmStars members at the roundtable, cost and complexity were identified as major barriers to implementation of both decentralized trials and remote patient monitoring. Other barriers discussed included regulatory challenges, ethical considerations, lack of standardization, and data security/privacy concerns.
“Some of the biggest barriers we've had are around stakeholder acknowledgement that we could benefit from decentralized trials - we need this to galvanize us and drive this approach,” shared one participant.
Another pointed out, “For every patient that thinks that decentralization is a good idea, there's probably at least one other patient that would rather go to a brick and mortar trial site, because they like seeing their physician.”
Clearly, collaboration among stakeholders which includes pharma, patients, researchers, regulators, and innovators, is necessary for success. To learn more on this roundtable, please see the first post in the series: https://lnkd.in/e63QGwYX
