Congratulations! 👏 July 2024 DAISY Honoree Breanna Elliott, RN Telemetry A patient said the following about Breanna: “When I was recently readmitted to the hospital, my nurse, Breanna, and I discussed my frequent admissions. We agreed that I’m here too often, and it’s time to figure out what’s going on with my heart. Breanna is incredibly patient and understanding. I would get so tired during walks, and she explained that I should rest. The doctors believe they have identified what’s causing my fatigue and chest pain, and I’m now on two new medications to help. Breanna makes sure I do what’s necessary to get better without overdoing it. She shows compassion every time she enters the room, whether to give medication or simply answer a question. If she doesn’t know the answer, she seeks it out or consults the doctor to provide the information I need.” Thank you, Breanna! You are an outstanding role model in our Phelps Health nursing community! The DAISY Award at Phelps Health is sponsored by the family of Vicki B. Allen through their philanthropic gift to the Phelps Health Foundation.

Congratulations to the August CARES Award winners, who embody the Phelps Health values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence and Service! 🥳 CARES Award Winner: Kenny Smith, Respiratory Therapy I would like to nominate Kenny Smith for a Cares Award. My father was in the hospital recently, and Kenny was one of his respiratory therapists. When my father was transferred to the ICU and emergently intubated, Kenny's calm and caring nature kept my parents informed and reassured even though they were scared. He even stayed with my dad through his intubation process. When my father was extubated and the doctor suggested a percussion vest, Kenny helped my dad understand what it was for and how it would help. Knowing that my dad wouldn't like the vest, Kenny made it a better experience by getting my dad dancing in the bed. Kenny even danced right along with him. It was one of the first times I saw my dad smile since he had gotten so sick. Each time Kenny visited the room, my dad would perk up. Unfortunately, my dad did not survive this last illness. On the day my father passed, Kenny showed him so much compassion, kindness and respect. Afterward, he took the time to return to the room to tell my family how sorry he was. He gave my mom the biggest hug. We will forever be grateful for the wonderful care that Kenny extended to my dad. He made an awful situation more bearable for my father and my family. We Caught You Caring Award Winner: Jaden Matthews, Medical Telemetry I would like to express my appreciation for everything Jaden did for me while I was in the hospital. She always made sure I had plenty of ice for my drinks, and when I needed my hair washed, she brought a shower cap and dry shampoo and washed my hair. Afterward, Jaden combed and braided it for me – something she did not have to do, but did out of the kindness and compassion of her heart. She always has a smile and is willing to help with anything! Jaden, you rock! Department Award Winner: Outside Transport Outside Transport is doing a great job watching for criminal activity in our parking lots. This afternoon, they saw someone wandering around the main hospital parking lots, looking inside vehicles. They quickly called me with a description of the person, then followed them at a distance while relaying information to Public Safety. This is a perfect example of "see something, say something" and recognizing suspicious activity. I have no doubt that potential thefts were prevented today by their efforts. Outside Transport is truly one of our unsung heroes at Phelps Health. Thank you for all you do for our organization! Remember, staff can nominate an employee for a CARES Award or Department Award on the employee portal or patients and visitors can nominate an employee for a We Caught You Caring Award by visiting: https://bit.ly/3Tm2d7K

Congratulations to our June 2024 DAISY Honoree Tiffany Williams, RN, BSN, with DDCI Infusion! 👏 A patient said the following about Tiffany: “I have been an infusion patient at Phelps Health for about 8 years, first at the Bond Building, then at the Delbert Day Cancer Institute. For many of those years, I have had infusion therapy every 6 weeks. So, I have experienced many infusions! During that time, I have watched Tiffany become an infusion nurse, go to graduate school and become a mother, all while increasing her professional skills. She hasn’t missed getting the needle into my arm on the first try in ages, sparing me from feeling like a pincushion. “Recently, a new nurse was only partially successful in starting my IV, and it stopped. Tiffany came over, tugged on the tube, taped it down and, cool as could be, went on her way – no drama, just proficiency. As for me, I was saved from additional stress and another stick. Tiffany is a pleasant, proficient, gifted nurse with a wry sense of humor. I know things will go well when I’m in her care. "When my recent scans showed no sign of metastasized cancer, Tiffany saw to it that I rang the bell, and she gathered the other staff to witness and applaud. I will be continuing in treatment, however, and Tiffany, I am sure, will continue to nail that stick with surety of her own.” Thank you, Tiffany! You are an outstanding role model in our Phelps Health nursing community! The DAISY Award at Phelps Health is sponsored by the family of Vicki B. Allen through their philanthropic gift to the Phelps Health Foundation.
