NEW: Kevin Singer writes about PACE research for TheFulcrum.US: "It might surprise some that a relatively low percentage (17 percent) of participants selected democracy as their most positive term, while over a quarter (27 percent) chose democracy as their most negative term. This suggests that while 'democracy' is generally viewed favorably, it may not be the most compelling or motivating concept for many Americans." Read more: https://lnkd.in/gywpx6f7

NEW: CEO Kristen Cambell is featured on BYU Broadcasting's Top of Mind with Julie Rose, where she shares an inspiring account of serving on a jury. Episode description: A trial by jury is an important American right, enshrined in the 6th and 7th amendments of the constitution. But do jury trials work the way we want them to? Should America continue to lean away from juries, or press to make them more present in our system - and perhaps more just? Listen to the episode here: https://lnkd.in/gjiVxnid

How do you feel when you hear words like “community,” “racial equality,” and “freedom”? According to a survey by Philanthropy for Active Civic Engagement (PACE) that tracked reactions to 21 emotive words about America and democracy over the past 5 years, words like these can elicit strong but sometimes diametrically opposed reactions. Join Planet Word and PACE on September 16 for a provocative online presentation about how the words we choose shape our messages and reach — or turn off — our intended audiences in our increasingly divided world.
