Alongside guidance from our network lead United Philanthropy Forum, and other key stakeholders (Delaware Alliance for Nonprofit Advancement, Delaware Community Foundation, United Way of Delaware) we are working and monitoring the implications for philanthropy and its nonprofit grantees as it relates to the Trump administration's issuance of an executive order (EO) titled “Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring Merit-Based Opportunity”. The administration is also directing federal agencies to identify up to nine potential civil compliance investigations targeting diversity, equity, and inclusion programs deemed discriminatory. Large nonprofit organizations and foundations with assets of $500 million or more are among those that could be identified may also be on the radar. Additionally, it is noted that we should be mindful that The Trump administration may be signing up to the listservs and petitions of progressive nonprofits using the email DEIAtruth@opm.gov, possibly to surveil DEI initiatives. It is suggested organizations search their email lists, petitions and other databases for this address, as well as other recent additions to their listervs. Stay tuned as we learn more and determine what guidance and resources may be helpful. 2025 for philanthropy is already starting out on a high note. We had the honor of witnessing “Philanthropy in Action” celebrating the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the Chemours Stem Hub at Eastside Charter School. CONGRATULATIONS to Eastside Charter School led by Aaron Bass, Ed.D. , Charlie McDowell, Dr. Cecil Gordon, key partners, Board members, the students and the communities who will benefit. We applaud our members of Philanthropy Delaware who currently are supporting this effort: Barclays Capital One, CRESTLEA FOUNDATION INC, Cinnaire, Discover Financial Services, The Laffey-McHugh Foundation, The Longwood Foundation and the Welfare Foundation and all who stepped forward alongside The Chemours Company, our Federal delegation and the 151st and 152nd Delaware General Assembly. With the collaboration across philanthropy, government, key public-private partnerships, students will now have an opportunity to build “successful and choice-filled lives”.
