About us
At United Way of Delaware (UWDE), we are dedicated to fostering a Delaware where every child enters school prepared to learn, where adolescents thrive academically and personally, and where individuals and families are equipped to be financially empowered. Our mission is clear: to advance the common good by focusing on Early Education Success, Career and College Success and Financial Empowerment. Driven by a commitment to lasting change, UWDE strategically targets the root causes of Delaware's most pressing social issues across New Castle, Kent, and Sussex counties, along with Salem County, NJ. Through collaboration with businesses, government entities, social service agencies, academic institutions, community organizations, and concerned individuals, we develop and implement sustainable solutions that positively impact lives today and into the future. Join us in building a thriving Delaware where the quality of life is elevated for all its residents. Together, we can create a brighter tomorrow for our communities.

Thank you to our partners and volunteers who helped us give away over 430 backpacks at the Dover Public Library on Saturday, August 10, 2024! Besides the backpacks, which were filled with items needed to help our students start the new school year strong, we handed out 600 COVID test kits and children’s books and hosted a resource fair. Thanks to AmeriHealth Caritas Delaware, Women Beyond Measure, Quality Insights, Delaware Parents As Teachers, Vision To Learn Delaware, Jewish Family Services of Delaware, Delmarva Power, and the Kent County Black and Brown Coalition for supporting our community! We also gave away 46 backpacks to Sussex County children through our group, Latinos Unidos.

In preparation for our Back to School Backpack Giveaway and Fair on Saturday, August 17, UWDE staff joined the staff of Wilmington law firm Richards, Layton & Finger to assemble the backpacks they donated for our event. Our combined team formed an assembly line, filling backpacks with a pencil bag stuffed with pencils, crayons, colored pencils, a sharpener, and a glue stick, as well as notebook paper, a spiral notebook, and a subject folder. Altogether, we assembled 200 backpacks for Saturday’s event! Thank you to Richards, Layton, & Finger for supporting our community. #BackToSchool #LiveUnited
