Today was a momentous occasion for the PBC as the Center for Advanced Molecular Immunological Therapies (CAMI) broke ground, marking a significant new chapter for the University of Arizona Health Sciences. With over 300 attendees, we were honored to hear remarks from UA’s new president, Dr. Suresh Garimella; CAMI Executive Director, Deepta Bhattacharya; and Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego. The groundbreaking event unveiled exciting details about CAMI and reinforced our collective commitment to establishing Arizona as the leading innovation district for biosciences in the country. CAMI is poised to be a vital asset for the Phoenix Bioscience Core aiming to attract top-tier talent and foster advancements that will benefit patient care and the biomedical field as a whole. This exciting step forward promises to not only strengthen the University of Arizona’s research capabilities but also create valuable partnerships that will engage local and global health communities, encouraging the sharing of resources and knowledge. #PHXisbio #phoenixbiosciencecore #innovation

✨ What an incredible evening at the Arizona Science Center for the Artists + Researchers Live (ARx3) event! 🔬The night included a deeper look into the research of Dr. Kamel Lahouel of TGen - Part of City of Hope, presentations by the ARx3 teams, and a the opening of the ARx3 Exhibition in the Genius Theater. 🧬We witnessed a unique fusion of science and art, where the ARx3 teams presented their thought-provoking, collaborative pieces that brought complex research to life in beautiful and innovative ways that showcased paintings, woodwork, virtual reality, and mathematical projections. 🎨The art showcased the diverse and impactful research happening right here on the Phoenix Bioscience Core including the stories of those caring for their loved ones with dementia, cancer vaccines, complexity of a stroke, collection of fiber and mycelial works that visually interrogate the insidious nature of mental health stigma, and more. Special thanks to the team at the Arizona Science Center, the talented artists and researchers who devoted their time and passion, and the PBC Arts Committee for making this event such a success! Artist + Researcher Applications are open! 🎨 🔬 The Artist + Researcher program (ARx) at Phoenix Bioscience Core (PBC) is the largest initiative of the PBC Arts Committee, offering scientists the opportunity to collaborate with local artists to create pieces that visually interpret and communicate their scientific research and innovations. ARx was birthed in 2021 when the PBC connected with the Phoenix-based Bentley Gallery to create a program that could translate the complex life science research happening at the PBC for community accessibility. So far the program has successfully launched three cohorts of ARx with the art being showcased at influential places such as Sky Harbor International Airport, Phoenix City Hall, and the Arizona Science Center. Some teams have seen their work move further in the academic spaces with invitations to speak at academic consortiums and conferences. The ARx teams work together over the course of nine months to transform the groundbreaking life science research happening on the campus of the PBC into a variety of art mediums such as sculpture, painting, augmented reality, and live performance. Now heading into its fourth cohort, we invite researchers and scientists located on the PBC at ASU, UofA, NAU, TGen, PBC biotech companies, and PBC clinical partners to apply for this highly engaging and collaborative experience.
