The Legacy Project- Meet Peggy. Peggy spent her childhood on the New Jersey shore where she honed her skills as both a water-skier and windsurfer. It would also be here where she’d meet her husband, Bob. Peggy has a remarkable legacy as a registered nurse, where she spent many years dedicated to her patients. She is known by former colleagues for her compassion and unwavering professionalism. Remaining calm under pressure a noted strong suit of hers. When not actively practicing nursing, Peggy and Bob raised two children and sharing her love of adventure and thrill-seeking. Her son, Scott, would gravitate to the same hobbies of windsurfing, and the two would spend much of the summer months on lakes, Lake Lanier and Lake George, NY, in particular. What is the context of her photo, you may ask? Gardening became an outlet and passion of Peggy’s for most of her adult life and is the subject of her photo. She would give her gardens the same nurturing attention and care she would give her family and patients, and she found the same peace and comfort in caring for them. The Legacy Project at PSL- Meet Bob. Bob has been a resident of The Phoenix at Hammond in Louisiana for two and a half years. This father of two is a native of Denver, Colorado and enlisted in the Navy in 1960 where he served as a radio operator on USS Boyd and later Yokosuka, Japan. He returned to the states and worked in Denver with Union Pacific railroad until he was transferred to Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1975. This is where he would meet and marry his wife, Jan. The two would remain in Cheyenne until 1986 when his work with the Association of American Railroads as a mechanical inspector would usher them to Hammond, where they still reside today. After over 40 years in railroading, Bob has spent much of his retirement as a volunteer at a local hospital before his dementia diagnosis 6 years ago. In this photograph, you see Bob pictured in his railroad shirt, his radio call letters cap and his Morse Code key. On the day of his photograph, Bob was not having a particularly great day. He was fairly quiet and not engaging with those around him. However when his morse code key was place in his hands, he immediately began to tap. When asked what he was spelling, he tapped again and said “B-O-B, Bob!” Photo Credit: Cole Michael Photography#PhoenixSeniorLiving ##myhomeisPSL

The Legacy Project at Phoenix Senior Living Meet Judy B. This bundle of energy has been a resident of The Pearl at Watkins Centre since of July of 2023 and brings joy to every room she enters. Judy has a great fondness for horses, spending a great deal of time working with horses and being with them in the barn. If you ask her, she’d say she understands horses better than people. The horse in the photo is more than a prop. It was originally used by the community’s activity department for a Kentucky Derby celebration earlier this year, but it very quickly found its new home with Judy. The pony accompanies her for most of her days. It was only fitting to have him join her in her photograph. Photo Credit: Cole Michael Photography #phoenixseniorliving #myhomeisPSL
