Boston-based company Piaggio Fast Forward Inc. (PFF) was founded in 2015 by the Piaggio Group (the Italian manufacturer that created the iconic Vespa scooter). Our vision is to bring intuitive and efficient technology solutions into the entire human-built environment, supporting the local mobility needs of businesses, communities, and individuals. Our cargo carrying following robots, gitamini and gitaplus, were first designed for consumers to use in everyday built environments. We have since expanded our following technology to mobile solutions that businesses use to augment their labor force in select industries including hospitality, manufacturing, indoor agriculture, construction, and more. In order to bring products to market today, we are solving the problem of robotic interaction with people in dynamically changing environments. We pride ourselves on building in public, designing first-of-their-kind technology products that become more inventive in the hands of our early users. gitamini and gitaplus are our easy-to-use, high-tech following robots that carry your gear, up to 20lb and 40lb respectively, keeping you hands-free while you live life on foot. They are nimble, lightweight, and compact and are built with what we call “pedestrian etiquette” meaning they move similarly to the way that humans do. Other following robots need a GPS or a tracking device in order to follow its leader, but our robots are different. With first-of-their-kind technology, gita robots use an array of sensors that gather information that allow them to see, understand and react to their surroundings. “The size of PFF means that our Customer Support team is able to have a relationship with some of our customers, especially the ones who are the most passionate about our products. We’re eager to get good news and bad news from them, but most of all, we love to get the stories about how our customers are using gita robots and PFF technology in the real world. Their feedback has a strong impact on how we improve the current products as well as the decisions we make about new features and new products. With over-the-air updates based on user feedback, gita is always improving. Robots are tested for roughly 1,000 miles before they’re ready for customers.” - Greg Lynn, CEO

A key component of developing our technology products is our Smart Behaviors team. Jeffrey Schnapp, Chief Visionary Officer at PFF says, “the Smart Behaviors team at PFF is responsible for developing designs for robot behaviors, but really we’re about designing rich and intuitive interactions between humans and robots.” As we continue to study and understand the ways that humans can benefit from the support of technology, we also continue to discover meaningful applications for the work we’re doing here at PFF.
