Real Estate Partner at Pillsbury | TX & CA Attorney | 40 Under 40 | CoolxDad | Community Leader | Real Estate Investor
Incredible time last night meeting and celebrating with my fellow honorees at the Houston Business Journal 40 Under 40 event. Everyone always says that they couldn't have done it without their support system (which is so true), but I was lucky enough to have them all on stage with me: my wife, my dad, my mentor, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP and CoolxDad. https://lnkd.in/eSZa_yx2 #40Under40 #HoustonBusinessJournal

I recently authored two alerts on significant decisions in the bankruptcy world. The first alert (with James Bobotek) discusses SCOTUS’ ruling in the Kaiser Gypsum case, which appears to mark the end of insurance neutrality as a common law bankruptcy standing doctrine. Debtors will no longer be able to prevent insurers from having a say by leaving their policy rights fully intact under a plan. The decision is expected to lead to increased insurer participation at the plan stage. Read the full alert here: (https://lnkd.in/eYFkfcTq) I am excited to share that I will be speaking at a Strafford webinar on August 8th at 1PM ET alongside Scott Seaman and Tim Burns, discussing the Kaiser decision and other pertinent issues. We would be delighted if you could join us. Find more details about the event on my firm's page: (https://lnkd.in/esBfgExZ) The second alert (with Dania Slim) focuses on a decision from the GOL chapter 11 case concerning plan lock-up provisions. Debtors are increasingly seeking commitments from creditors to vote in favor of a plan even before it is filed, a practice that raises legal concerns under the Code. It is anticipated that debtors will continue to explore innovative strategies in this area. Access the full alert here: (https://lnkd.in/e58feJmQ)

As part of Israel Desks’ the In the Spotlight series, Ari Berman, leader of Pillsbury’s Israel practice, detailed some of the initiatives that the firm has recently participated in to develop partnerships across Israel and aid Israeli clients entering the U.S. market. In March, Pillsbury hosted a U.S. – Israel Technology Meetup, giving delegates from 10 Israeli startups the opportunity to pitch to potential investors. In April, Pillsbury hosted the 2024 The Wharton School Israeli Innovation Conference, with over 125 participants, to discuss topics on innovation in Israel, such as cybersecurity and fintech. Also in April, Pillsbury took part in Start AgriTech, a collaboration between U.S. and Israeli companies and schools to mentor 12 startups in Intellectual Property and VC issues. As Israel continues to be ranked as one of the top startup/VC ecosystems in the world, our Israeli team has been working hard to develop vital connections to meet our clients’ evolving needs. #CyberSecurity #Fintech
