The University of Pittsburgh’s SBDC, part of the Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence, is a resource for small business owners that provides consulting, workshops, and other specialty business-building support at all stages of the business lifecycle. The mission of the Small Business Development Center at the University of Pittsburgh is to grow the economy of Western Pennsylvania by providing entrepreneurs with the education, information, and tools necessary to build successful businesses. We do this by offering no-cost consulting for small business owners, events and workshops throughout the year to boost business owner acumen, and networking opportunities to connect them to businesses, people and resources that spur business growth. The Pitt SBDC is recognized by the Pennsylvania SBDC (PASBDC) as Center of Excellence in Digital Services and a Center of Excellence in Supply Chain. In 2020, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) named the Pitt SBDC as the #1 Small Business Development Center in the U.S. out of nearly 1,000 similar organizations by recognizing it with the national SBDC Excellence and Innovation Award. Established in 1979, we have built an impressive record of service to our clients. The SBDC is a member of the Pennsylvania SBDC and the Association of Small Business Development Centers (ASBDC) networks. As a member of these networks, we are able to draw on a rich base to provide our clients with a comprehensive range of business services for every stage of development. No matter what the business or industry, SBDC’s highly-skilled consulting team has experience spanning the business lifecycle and are here to make sure that your business not only survives, but grows.

🎉 SBDC Success Story: All Things Empanada 🎉 Coty Rastafar started All Things Empanada in 2021 as a passion project, experimenting with different flavor combinations for homemade baked empanadas. After receiving positive feedback and requests for her empanadas from friends and family, Coty realized the potential for a business. All Things Empanada has since grown into a thriving business, selling empanadas online, at pop-up events, food festivals, and farmers markets around Pittsburgh.
